CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Nov. 25, 2023) – The No. 14 Hofstra men’s soccer team looks to continue its NCAA Tournament run on Sunday night with a trip to No. 3 North Carolina.
Hofstra (14-3-4) advanced thanks to a 2-0 Second Round win over Yale last weekend in Hempstead.
Ryan Carmichael scored both goals for the Pride and ranks second nationally in goals (16) and third in points (36). Teammate
Eliot Goldthorp, who was the CAA Player of the Year, leads the nation with 14 assists. Hofstra leads the CAA and ranks 12
th nationally with a 0.754 goals-against average.
North Carolina (11-3-6) advanced to the Third Round with a 2-0 victory over Memphis. Martin Vician scored twice for North Carolina.
Sunday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Pride and the Tar Heels do have several common opponents - William & Mary, Elon, and Virginia this season. Hofstra defeated William & Mary (2-1), while North Carolina played the Tribe to a 0-0 draw. The Pride defeated Elon, 3-0, while the Tar Heels won by a 2-0 score. Hofstra and Virginia played to a 1-1 draw, while the Cavaliers defeated North Carolina, 1-0.
Sunday’s game is slated for a 5 p.m. start and will be available on ESPN+.
