CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Dec. 12

RICHMOND, Va. (Dec. 12, 2023) – The CAA has announced its second indoor track and field weekly awards for the 2023-24 season. On the women’s side, North Carolina A&T junior sprinter/hurdler Lucheyona Weaver was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, with Northeastern graduate multi Dominique Biron and UNCW graduate jumper Courtney Lines sharing Co-Field Athlete of the Week honors. North Carolina A&T swept the men’s awards for the second straight week as sophomore Jason Holmes collected Track Athlete of the Week accolades and junior Joseph Palmer was honored as the Field Athlete of the Week. 
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lucheyona Weaver, North Carolina A&T
Junior | Sprints / Hurdles | Fort Myers, Fla. / Dunbar
Weaver earned her second 60m hurdles victory in as many weeks, running a personal record 8.19 at the Clemson Opener. The time leads the CAA and ranks second in the NCAA this season. In addition, it matches the fastest time in league history established by former Aggie Paula Salmon last season. Weaver also competed in the 60m dash and A&T 4x400m relay at the competition. The junior posted a lifetime-best 7.54 in the 60m, which ranks first in the CAA, and helped the Aggies run the conference’s top time in the 4x400m relay this season at 3:49.61.  
 
WOMEN’S CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dominique Biron, Northeastern
Graduate | Combined Events | Bow, N.H. / Cushing Academy
Biron scored 4,040 points to win the pentathlon at the 28th Annual URI Pentathlon last Friday. The performance leads the conference and ranks third in the NCAA this season. The graduate student posted the top marks in the 60m hurdles, long jump (5.95m) and 800m (2:23.21) while finishing second in the shot put (11.68m) and third in the high jump (1.65m). Additionally, her time of 8.62 in the 60m hurdles was a personal best.
 
WOMEN’S CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Courtney Lines, UNCW
Graduate | Jumps | Leland, N.C. / North Brunswick
Lines opened her season with a victory in the long jump at the Clemson Opener, recording a mark of 6.16m (20-02.50). Lines is the only CAA student-athlete to leap over 6.00 meters this season, and the jump ranks fifth in the NCAA. The graduate student also participated in the high jump, earning a clearance of 1.66m (5-05.25).  
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Holmes, North Carolina A&T
Sophomore | Sprints / Hurdles | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall College 
Holmes ran the fastest 60m hurdle time in the NCAA this season, opening his 2023-24 campaign at Clemson over the weekend. The sophomore took first place in finals, posting a time of 7.70, bettering his top-qualifying time of 7.76 from the prelims. The mark was one-hundredth shy of his personal and CAA record (7.69) set last winter.  
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Joseph Palmer, North Carolina A&T
Junior | Jumps | Louisville, Ky. / Moore 
Palmer shattered the CAA indoor record in the triple jump with his leap of 14.94m (49-00.25) at the Clemson Opener. The mark was 45 centimeters farther than the best jump in the conference last year during the league’s inaugural indoor track and field season. Palmer’s effort tops the CAA and ranks 21st nationally.
