RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 20, 2023) – Hofstra freshman Nikki Mennella, Hofstra graduate student Jess Smith, and Elon freshman Anna Hackett are the CAA Women’s Lacrosse weekly award winners for their performances over the last week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nikki Mennella, Hofstra
Freshman | Attack | Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West
Mennella starred in her first career game against a ranked opponent with five goals and three assists to take down No. 25 Vanderbilt in Nashville. The stat line for Mennella was the best by a Hofstra player in a win against a ranked opponent since Hofstra joined the CAA in 2002 and the most points by a freshman since Alyssa Parrella notched eight against Fairfield in 2017.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jess Smith, Hofstra
Graduate Student | Goalkeeper | West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon
Smith tallied 11 saves while holding No. 25 Vanderbilt to eight goals in Saturday’s victory. The goalkeeper from Long Island made three stops each in the third and fourth quarters to help the Pride to its first win over a ranked opponent since 2021. Smith was in double figures in saves for the 29th time in her career.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Anna Hackett, Elon
Freshman | Midfield | Sykesville, Md. / Century
Hackett recorded seven goals over two games in a 1-1 week for Elon with a victory over Queens. The freshman from Maryland collected three goals and a caused turnover in a midweek victory over the Royals and tallied four goals and three caused turnovers in Saturday’s overtime setback against VCU.
