RICHMOND, Va. (February 21, 2023) – The CAA announced its weekly award winners in men’s and women’s tennis. Chosen on the men’s side were Monmouth senior Niels Van Noord and the Elon team of sophomore Nicholas Condos and junior Ben Zipay. Receiving honors on the women’s side were Delaware graduate student Adel-Byanu Abidullina and the William & Mary duo of grad student Sofiya Kuzina and sophomore Ine Stange.
 
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Niels Van Noord, Sr., Monmouth (Hudson, Quebec, Canada)

Van Noord posted a 2-0 mark at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as Monmouth defeated Fairleigh Dickinson (4-3) and Queens (6-1) to push its winning streak to four. The Hawks’ fifth-year player topped FDU’s Teodors Pukse, 6-1, 6-4, and cruised past Queens’ Cameron Henricy, 6-2, 6-2. Van Noord teamed with Victor Castro for a 6-4 doubles triumph vs. FDU and clinched the doubles point with Charlie Penman against Queens.

Nicholas Condos, So., Elon (Wilton, Conn.)
Ben Zipay, Jr., Elon (Osprey, Fla.)
 
Condos and Zipay won both of their matches at No. 3 doubles, helping Elon earn the doubles point in team victories over Longwood (7-0) and Georgia State (6-1) last week. The Phoenix duo rolled past LU’s Timeo Puech and Alejandro Uribe, 6-1, and edged GSU’s Harrison Kim and Gabriele Datei, 7-5. Zipay was also 2-0 at No. 6 singles in the two victories. Condos and Zipay are 4-0 at No. 3 doubles this season.

CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Adel-Byanu Abidullina, Gr., Delaware (Moscow, Russia)

Abidullina went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as Delaware extended its winning streak to five with victories over St. John’s (6-1) and CAA foe Monmouth (7-0). The grad student beat St. John’s Lalita Devarakonda, 6-2, 6-4, and blanked Monmouth’s Ann Spurka, 6-0, 6-0. Abidullina and partner Eliza Askarova, who are ranked No. 3 nationally, also rolled to a pair of 6-1 decisions in doubles last week.

CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Sofiya Kuzina, Gr., William & Mary (Moscow, Russia)
Ine Stange, So., William & Mary (Oslo, Norway)
 
Kuzina and Stange repeat as the Doubles Team of the Week after upsetting 19th-ranked Selma Cadar and Mary Brumfield of Maryland, 6-4, last Saturday. The victory helped William & Mary clinch the doubles point against the Terps. It was the highest ranked win for a Tribe doubles team since 2016 and moved Kuzina and Stange to 4-0 on the season.
