CAA Recognizes Top Freshmen Swimmers And Divers For The Month Of January

RICHMOND, Va. (February 7, 2023) – The CAA has announced its top freshmen performers for the month of January in swimming and diving. Delaware freshman Matvei Namakonov was selected as the Men’s Rookie Swimmer of the Month, while Towson freshman Ally Frame was named the Women’s Rookie Swimmer of the Month. UNCW freshman Ethan Badrian was honored as the Men’s Rookie Diver of the Month and Towson freshman Shannon Parrau was chosen as the Women’s Rookie Diver of the Month.

CAA Men’s Rookie Swimmer of the Month
Matvei Namakonov, Fr., Delaware (Bishkek, Kyrgzstan)
 
Namakonov recorded nine podium finishes during the month of January and was part of a UD pool record. The freshman had three top-3 performances in the 50 free, including a first-place effort vs. Seton Hall (21.21) and a second-place outing vs. Towson (21.20). The freshman was part of the 200 medley relay team that won twice, including a pool-record time of 1:29.58 against Towson. He was also a member of the 400 free relay team that had three podium placements.
 
CAA Women’s Rookie Swimmer of the Month
Ally Frame, Fr., Towson (Ballston Lake, N.Y.)

Frame contributed three individual wins, two relay victories and eight podium finishes for the month. Against UMBC, she captured both the 50 back (25.96) and the 100 back (55.29). The freshman followed with another first-place outing in the 100 back (57.04) versus Drexel. Frame added victories in the 200 medley relay against UMBC and Drexel.

CAA Men’s Rookie Diver of the Month
Ethan Badrian, Fr., UNCW (Silver Springs, Md.)
 
Badrian captured all four events he competed in during January meets against Davidson and NC State. Against Davidson, he posted a score of 327.35 in the 1-meter competition, which was the 3rd-best all-time effort at UNCW. At NC State, Badrian tallied a score of 365.55 on the 3-meter board, which ranks 2nd-best all-time at UNCW.
 
CAA Women’s Rookie Diver of the Month
Shannon Parrau, Fr., Towson (Germantown, Md.)
 
Parrau won four of her six events during the month of January to help Towson earn victories over UMBC and Drexel. She qualified for the NCAA Zones on the 1-meter board by scoring 267.38 against UMBC and improved that score to 268.95 against Drexel Parrau also placed second in the 1 and 3-meter dives against Delaware.
