CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Feb. 7

RICHMOND, Va. (Feb. 7, 2023) – The CAA has announced its sixth edition of Indoor Track and Field weekly awards for the 2022-23 season. North Carolina A&T and Hampton headlined the weekly honors as a pair of graduate sprinters Amira Aduma of the Lady Pirates and Paula Salmon of the Aggies, shared CAA Women’s Co-Track Athlete of the Week honors. North Carolina A&T junior sprinter Reheem Hayles earned CAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week accolades on the men’s side. In addition, North Carolina A&T throwers Brayden Hogest and Julieth Nwosu were named CAA Men’s and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week.
WOMEN’S CO-TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amira Aduma, Hampton
Graduate | Sprints | Hampton, Va. / Phoebus
Aduma tallied season-best marks in the 60 and 200m dash while helping the Lady Pirates’ 4x400m relay to a victory at the South Carolina Invitational. In the 60, Aduma recorded a league-leading mark of 7.42 to take fifth in the finals. She followed the performance by running 24.11 in the 200m, which ranks second in the CAA this season. The graduate student and her teammates ended the competition by posting the conference’s top time in the 4x400m relay, winning the event in 3:40.94.

Paula Salmon, North Carolina A&T
Graduate | Sprints / Hurdles | Brooklyn, N.Y. / Clara Barton
Salmon won the 60m hurdles and recorded a season-best time in the 200m at the South Carolina Invitational. The graduate hurdler posted a season-best 8.19 to take first place in the 60m hurdles. It improved her league-leading mark and ranks 18th in the NCAA this season. Additionally, Salmon ran 24.82 in the 200m for a season-best performance and participated in the high jump, clearing 1.65m (5-05.00).
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Julieth Nwosu, North Carolina A&T
Senior | Throws | Brockton, Mass. / Franklin Pierce
Nwosu took first place in the shot put at the South Carolina Invitational, winning the event with a mark of 16.62m (54-06.50). It is a personal record for the senior, who ranks 27th nationally in the event after her league-leading mark.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Reheem Hayles, North Carolina A&T

Hayles won the 400m at the South Carolina Invitational to remain unbeaten in the event this season. Hayles posted a season-best time of 46.14 to win the event, which ranks eighth in the NCAA and first in the conference. He also set a personal record in the 200m, running 21.52 to take second, a time that ranks third in the CAA. Finally, Hayles helped the Aggies’ 4x400m relay team to the best colligate finish in the competition, finishing in 3:07.44.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brayden Hodgest, North Carolina A&T
Sophomore | Throws | Fort Worth, Texas / Brewer HS
Hodgest recorded the league’s farthest throw in the shot put this weekend at the South Carolina Invitational. The sophomore finished fourth in the competition with a mark of 17.20m (56-05.25), this third throw of over 17m this winter, as he remains the only CAA competitor with a throw greater than 17m.

The Cougars competed at the South Carolina Invitational over the weekend.
Luzy Lieger broke her program record in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.90m (12-09.50), a mark that ranks first in the CAA this season …
Delaware – The Blue Hens participated in the Scarlet Knights Open hosted by Rutgers. A pair of student-athletes broke program records as
Chioma Njoku recorded a mark of 19.20m (63-00.00) in the weight throw, and
Aja Davis ran 7.48 in the 60m. Both performances rank second in the conference this season …
Elon – The Phoenix traveled to the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
Stephanie Lair won the 600m with a personal-best time of 1:35.80 …
Hampton –

Kayla Spencer, who joined Aduma on Hampton’s 4x400m relay team, also set personal records in the 400m at the South Carolina Invitational. Grant ran 55.05, which ranks third in the CAA, and Spencer finished in 56.98 …
Hofstra – The Pride competed at the METS Indoor Championship on Staten Island.
Jordyn McDonnell won the mile with a season-best performance of 5:01.92 …
Monmouth – The Hawks competed at the Scarlet Knight Open over the weekend.
McKenzie Delahanty won the 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:42.70 …
North Carolina A&T – After a week off, the Aggies returned to action at the South Carolina Invitational.
Jada Griffin improved on her league-leading time in the 400m with a season-best 53.71. She also opened in the 200m moving atop the conference ranks with a time of 23.88 …
UNCW – The Seahawks returned to action after a week off, competing in the Richard Drake Invitational at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Courtney Lines won the long jump (5.62m) for the third time in as many tries this season …
Northeastern – The Huskies competed in multiple competitions over the weekend.
Abigail Hassman recorded a personal record in the mile, finishing in 4:46.87, a time that ranks second in the CAA …
Stony Brook – The Seawolves were back in action at the Armory, participating in the Scarlet Knight Open. Stony Brook won the distance medley relay at the competition with a time of 12:24.21. The mark ranks third in the conference this winter …
Towson – The Tigers traveled back to Penn State, competing at the Skyes & Sabock Challenge.
Georgia Coleman recorded a season-best mark of 17.61m (57-09.50) in the weight throw to place third in the event …
William & Mary – The Tribe traveled to Blacksburg for the Doc Hale VT Meet.
Emily Ervin ran her first career indoor 400m, posting a time of 56.21. She was also a member of the Tribe’s 4x400m relay team, which set a season-best time in the event with a mark of 3:44.80.
