CAA Golf Weekly Awards - March 1

RICHMOND, Va. (March 1, 2023) – Elon junior Apple Ngamwong and UNCW junior Patrick Sparks are the CAA Golfers of the Week for their recent performances. Wednesday’s accolades recognize accomplishments from Feb. 16-28 based on league schedules during that time.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Apple Ngamwong, Elon
Junior | Bangkok, Thailand / Wentworth College
Ngamwong earned co-medalist honors at the RiverTowne Invitational with a 54-hole score of 213 (-3). She birdied a par-5 on her final hole of the tournament to share the individual title. Ngamwong was one of six individuals to finish the tournament under par and is the second Elon individual to win a tournament this season, joining Ashley LaFontaine, who won the Elon Invitational in September.
 
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Patrick Sparks, UNCW
Junior | Lima, Peru / Markham College
Sparks carded a 54-hole career-low score of 209 (-7) to lead UNCW at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii. The junior from Peru went 73-69-67 to climb 13 spots on the final day of the event at the Ocean Course at Hokuala on Kaua’i. Sparks played a bogey-free final round with five birdies, including three of five par-4s on the back nine, and and recorded 12 birdies for the tournament.

Delaware was led by Sparky Ariyachatvakin, in the top 20 at 3-under, in Arizona … Drue Nicholas led the way for Drexel in Puerto Rico at 1-under … Monmouth opened its season at the Saint Leo’s Invitational Feb. 20-21 with Ethan Lee leading the way … UNCW was led by a 7-under performance from Patrick Sparks in Hawaii Feb. 16-18.
 
Women’s Notes
Charleston was led by a 3-under performance from Viktoria Hund … Delaware played in two tournaments over the last two weeks, finishing second at Mercer before placing fourth at the GCU Invitational with a top-10 from Anna Kittelson … Elon’s Apple Ngamwong shared medalist honors at the Rivertowne Invitational at 3-under over 54 holes; the Phoenix placed seventh as a team … North Carolina A&T placed fourth at the Bright’s Creek Invitational with a top-10 from Vileska Gelpi.
