CAA Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards – March 13

RICHMOND, Va. (March 13, 2023) – The CAA has announced its fifth men’s lacrosse weekly awards for the 2023 season. The Delaware duo of Tye Kurtz and Owen Grant earned the respective honors of Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week after back-to-back wins for the Blue Hens. In addition, Drexel freshman Conor Hooley received CAA Rookie of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tye Kurtz, Delaware
R-Senior | Attack | Puslinch, Ont. / Bishop MacDonell
Kurtz tallied 11 points on six goals and five assists, leading the Blue Hen attack in a 2-0 week. The redshirt senior started the week with a team-high six points on four goals and two assists in a 17-11 win over UMBC. He registered a .636 shot percentage in the effort and collected three ground balls. Kurtz opened CAA play by recording five points on two goals and three assists in an 18-6 win over Monmouth. The Puslinch, Ontario native leads the CAA in points (39) and the NCAA in goals (27). He has scored two or more goals and has at least one assist in every game this spring.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Owen Grant, Delaware
R-Senior | Defense | Newmarket, Ont. / Everest Academy
Grant recorded six caused turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls while adding one goal in a 2-0 week for Delaware. Against UMBC, the redshirt senior defender tallied four caused turnovers and four ground balls in a 17-11 win for the Blue Hens. Delaware’s all-time leader in caused turnovers recorded his 100th career caused turnover in the effort. He followed the performance with two caused turnovers and three ground balls against Monmouth, adding his first goal this season to help Delaware open CAA play 1-0.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Conor Hooley, Drexel
Freshman | Attack | Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury
Hooley found the back of the net five times for the Dragons in back-to-back games against nationally ranked opponents. On Wednesday, the freshman attacker recorded his first career hat trick against No. 14/18 Villanova. On Saturday, Hooley added two goals, helping Drexel defeat No. 17/13 Saint Joseph’s 18-16. He opened the scoring for the Dragons and scored their final goal to secure the victory, giving Drexel the first win over a ranked opponent in CAA Lacrosse this season.
