RICHMOND, Va. (March 15, 2023) – Towson and Drexel, two of the CAA's three regular-season champions, will begin postseason play in the WNIT on Thursday. The Tigers (21-10) travel to Harvard (17-11), and the Dragons (21-9) visit Fordham (18-12), with both games tipping at 7 p.m.
Towson is making its second straight appearance in the WNIT after earning a share of the CAA regular season title for the first time in program history. It marks the first time the Tigers will continue onto postseason play in consecutive seasons.
The Tigers are led by First Team All-CAA selection and CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Kylie Kornegay-Lucas. The redshirt junior guard leads Towson in scoring and assists with 14.2 points and 4.1 helpers per game, adding 7.4 rebounds per contest. An elite defender, Kornegay-Lucas, has at least one steal in 29 games this season, including seven in a row, averaging 2.4 per game.
Harvard has a balanced offense with four players averaging over 10.0 points per game. The Crimson rank second in the Ivy League, scoring 69.7 points per contest, led by First Team All-Ivy League selection Harmoni Turner. The sophomore guard leads Harvard with 16.1 points and 3.9 assists per game while pulling down 6.0 rebounds per contest.
The winner of the first-round matchup between Towson and Harvard will advance to face the winner of Massachusetts and UAlbany in the second round.
Drexel is in the postseason for the ninth consecutive season, including back-to-back WNIT appearances. Last year, the Dragons won a pair of games in the WNIT, advancing to the Super 16 round, its deepest run since 2013.
The Dragons are led by CAA Player of the Year Keishana Washington. The graduate guard is second in the NCAA, scoring 27.2 points per game. Washington has reached double figures in 64 straight games, scoring 20 or more 25 times this season, including at least 30 points on nine occasions and three 40-point efforts. The Pickering, Ont. native enters the postseason third on the CAA single-season scoring list (815) and fifth all-time in conference history in career scoring (2,320).
Fordham has a high-powered offense, with the top two individual scorers in the A-10 ranking second in the league at 72.3 points per game. Asiah Dingle led the A-10, scoring 19.3 points per game, and her teammate Anna DeWolfe was second in the conference with 18.2 points per contest.
