Towson's Benzing Returns To NCAA Men's Swimming Championships

NCAA MEN'S SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
RICHMOND, Va. (March 22, 2023) – Towson junior Brian Benzing returns to the NCAA Men’s Swimming Championships this week, looking to improve on last year’s strong performance that earned him honorable mention All-America honors.
Benzing will swim in the preliminaries of the 200 IM on Thursday morning before competing in his featured event, the 100 breast, on Friday morning. The NCAA Men’s Swimming Championship will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
A two-time CAA Swimmer of the Year, Benzing was selected as the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2023 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships last month. He broke his own CAA record with a time of 51.25 in the 100 breast, which is the 7
th-fastest in the nation this season and gained him automatic entry into the NCAA Championship.
He also took first place and set a CAA record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:44.41 and claimed gold in the 100 fly with a time of 46.25. In addition, he was part of Towson’s second-place 200 medley and 400 free relay teams and the third-place 400 medley relay team.
In 2022, Benzing received honorable mention All-America accolades after placing 13
th in the 100 breast at the NCAA Championship with a time of 51.66. He set a school and CAA record in the preliminaries with a time of 51.47.
