Hayles & Yeust Headline Inaugural Men’s CAA Indoor Track & Field Postseason Awards

RICHMOND, Va. (March 23, 2023) – The CAA has announced its inaugural men’s indoor track and field postseason awards, headlined by North Carolina A&T sophomore sprinter
Reheem Hayles and Monmouth redshirt sophomore pole vaulter Dalton Yeust earning the respective honors of CAA Men’s Track and CAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.
In addition, North Carolina A&T freshman sprinter/hurdler Jason Holmes was named CAA Men’s Rookie of the Year, and Tramaine Shaw from Northeastern was selected as the CAA Men’s Coach of the Year by her peers.
Hayles also garnered Most Outstanding Track Performer honors from the CAA Championship after three All-CAA finishes and scoring 20.5 points. The sophomore sprinter was the CAA Champion in the 400m (45.99) and a member of the A&T gold medalist 4x400m relay squad (3:09.82). In addition, he finished runner-up in the 200m with a personal-best mark of 21.02. In the 400m this season, Hayles won three of his four races and set an indoor personal record at 45.95. The time was first in the CAA and ranked 18th nationally.
Yeust had a career year in the pole vault, breaking the Monmouth program record three times this winter. At the CAA Championship, he recorded a personal-best clearance of 5.10m (16-08.75) to win gold in the event. The redshirt sophomore collected five individual victories in the pole vault this season. Yeust finished the year ranked first in the CAA by 0.45m and was the only student-athlete to clear 5.00m.
Holmes finished the season with the league’s top time in the 60m hurdles. The freshman from Baltimore ran a personal-best 7.69 to rank 17th nationally in the event. It is the highest NCAA rank for any CAA male athlete in any event this season. Holmes earned All-CAA honors, finishing third in the 60m hurdles (7.91) at the CAA Championships. He also set personal-best marks of 6.97 in the 60m and 21.89 in the 200m.
Shaw is the four-time reigning CAA Men’s Coach of the Year outdoors and continues the run during the first-ever CAA Indoor Track and Field season. She led Northeastern to the team title at the inaugural CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, as Northeastern won six events and had 10 All-CAA performances. The Huskies won gold in the 60m, 60m hurdles, 3000m, 4x800m and Distance Medley relays in addition to the weight throw.
