CAA Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards – March 27

RICHMOND, Va. (March 27, 2023) – The CAA has announced its seventh men’s lacrosse weekly awards for the 2023 season. Stony Brook senior attackman Dylan Pallonetti received his second CAA Offensive Player of the Week accolade this spring, while Towson redshirt junior goalkeeper Evan Long was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week. Towson freshman Joaquin Villagomez also picked up his second honor this season, being selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dylan Pallonetti, Stony Brook
Senior | Attack | Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville
Pallonetti led the attack for Stony Brook with seven points on six goals and one assist in a 15-12 win over Monmouth. The senior netted a first-half hat trick, with his third goal tying the game and erasing a five-goal first-quarter deficit. Pallonetti scored three of Stony Brook’s four goals in the fourth quarter, including two go-ahead tallies and the final score to secure the victory. With the performance, the senior recorded his 100th career goal and extended his goal-scoring streak to 37 consecutive games.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Evan Long, Towson
R-Junior | Goalkeeper | West Chester, Pa. / McDonogh
Long posted a .682 save percentage with 15 saves in a stout defensive effort that led Towson past Fairfield 11-7. The redshirt junior made nine saves in the first half, including six in the second quarter, as the Tigers built a halftime lead. Long played all 60:00 minutes between the pipes, adding a pair of ground balls. It marks his fourth double-digit save effort this season, and the seven goals allowed are tied for the fewest by Towson this spring.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Joaquin Villagomez, Towson
Freshman | Attack | Severna Park, Md. / Severna Park HS
Villagomez scored a team-high three goals and added one assist to total four points in Towson’s 11-7 victory over Fairfield. The freshman tallied two scores in the first half to help Towson build a lead before scoring and assisting on the final two Tiger goals to give Towson its largest advantage in the contest. It marks his third hat trick this season and his fifth multi-goal effort.
