Charleston Extends Lead on Second Day of CAA Women’s Golf Championship

SOUTHPORT, N.C. (April 15, 2023) –
Charleston extended its advantage to 12 shots with a team score of 292 (+4) on the second day of the CAA Women’s Golf Championship.


 
All four of Charleston’s scoring players were 3-over or better on the day Saturday, led by even par performances from Emma Schimpf and Viktoria Hund. Schimpf moved into sole possession of the individual race at 1-under for the tournament, while Hund is fourth at 2-over and Adrian Anderson is seventh at 6-over. Charleston led by one shot entering the round.
 
UNCW is second and Delaware third, two strokes behind the Seahawks. Elon and Towson round out the top five, while William & Mary and Monmouth switched spots from the first round with the Tribe moving up to sixth on a team score of 298 for the round – the second-best of the afternoon and W&M’s top round in 20 CAA Championships. The Tribe’s Grace Lu led W&M’s efforts with a 4-under 68, one off the tournament record and the best round ever by a William & Mary golfer in the Championship. Hofstra moved up to sole possession of eighth with its own tournament record for a low round (317).
 
Six teams have a player in the top 10 with Schimpf (1st), Hund (4th), and Anderson (7th) representing Charleston, Mallory Fobes and Phu Khine tied for second for UNCW, Delaware’s Anna Kittelson and Christina Carroll fifth and sixth, and the quartet of William & Mary’s Lu, Elon’s Lotte Fox and Lieu Yuenyong, and Towson’s Faith McIlvain tied for eighth.
 
Six programs will tee off Sunday at 8 a.m. at The Reserve Course with the top three teams in team scoring – Charleston, UNCW, and Delaware – beginning at 8:50 a.m. Charleston will aim to be the first repeat winner since Delaware in 2016 and 2017.
