CAA Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards – April 17

RICHMOND, Va. (April 17, 2023) – The CAA has announced its 10th men’s lacrosse weekly awards for the 2023 season. Towson senior attackman Nick DeMaio received CAA Offensive Player of the Week accolades. Delaware redshirt senior defender Owen Grant and Hofstra graduate defender Tim Hegarty shared CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors. Fairfield freshman goalkeeper Will Snyder was named CAA Rookie of the Week. 
   
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick DeMaio, Towson
Senior | Attack | San Diego, Calif. / Coronado
DeMaio totaled 11 points on five goals and six assists, adding five ground balls and two caused turnovers in a pair of games for Towson. The senior attackman tallied a season-high seven points in a win over Hampton, recording two goals and a game-high five assists. Against No. 11 Denver, DeMaio registered his fourth hat trick this season and added an assist for a team-high four points. DeMaio has three or more points in five consecutive games and nine this spring. 
 
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Owen Grant, Delaware
R-Senior | Defense | Newmarket, Ont. / Everest Academy 
Grant led a defensive unit that held the second-ranked offensive attack in the conference to single-digit goals as the Blue Hens defeated Stony Brook 12-9 to remain perfect in CAA play. The redshirt senior defender tallied three caused turnovers, and three ground balls, adding one point with his sixth goal this season. Grant has at least three caused turnovers in four of his past five games and six times this season. He ranks seventh in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (2.08). 
   
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim Hegarty, Hofstra
Graduate | Defense | Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale
Hegarty set career highs in caused turnovers and ground balls, anchoring a spectacular defensive effort to help Hofstra defeat Drexel 8-7. The graduate defender recorded four ground balls and three caused turnovers as the Pride tied its fewest goals allowed this season and snapped Drexel’s five-game winning streak. Hegarty led a defensive unit that held the Dragons to seven goals on 50 possessions, posting an 86.0 percent defensive efficiency rating.  
   
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Will Snyder, Fairfield
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Brightwaters, N.Y. / St. Anthony’s  
Snyder played all 60 minutes between the pipes, recording 14 saves to help Fairfield defeat Monmouth 15-14. The freshman goalie faced 44 shots, posting a .500 save percentage while adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Snyder, who turned away six shots in the fourth quarter, tallied his seven double-digit save effort this season, including his fourth in a row.
