RICHMOND, Va. (April 18, 2023) – The CAA announced its weekly award winners in men’s and women’s tennis. Honored on the men’s side were Drexel grad student
Daniel Dudockin and the Monmouth duo of senior
Gabriel Busato and grad student
Victor Castro. Recognized on the women’s side were Delaware sophomore
Alina Vasilenko and the UNCW tandem of freshman
Eda Arli and grad student
Lauren Gish.
CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Daniel Dudockin, Gr., Drexel (Kibbutz Kefar Masaryk, Israel)
Dudockin went 2-0 at No. 2 singles as Drexel earned conference victories over Delaware (4-3) and Hofstra (4-2) last week. The grad student defeated Delaware’s Luis Molina, 6-4, 6-2, and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hofstra’s Bo Cautaerts, 6-3, 6-2. Dudockin improved to 12-4 in singles this season.
CAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Gabriel Busato, Sr., Monmouth (Jaragua do Sul, Brazil)
Victor Castro, Gr., Monmouth (Marilia, Brazil)
Busato and Castro went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles as Monmouth posted a 2-1 record last week. The Hawks’ duo beat St. John’s Carl Gustavsson and Nishant Dabas, 6-3, in a 4-2 setback to the Red Storm. They edged Morgan State’s Niles Rachal and Rhajzon Rankins, 7-6, in a 6-1 victory over the Bears and topped NJIT’s Samuel Townes and Wil Jenkins, 6-4, in a 4-0 team triumph. Bustato and Castro remained perfect with a 10-0 record this season.
CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Alina Vasilenko, So., Delaware (Moscow, Russia)
Vasilenko posted a 3-0 mark in singles and a 4-0 record in doubles in Delaware’s 4-0 week, that included CAA wins over Drexel (4-0) and Towson (4-0). The sophomore battled past Drexel’s Renata Lombera, 6-0. 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) and downed Towson’s Olivia Rothfeld, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in league play at No. 2 singles, and moved up to No. 1 vs. Morgan State and beat Averiana Mitchell, 6-2, 6-4.
CAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Eda Arli, Fr., UNCW (Izmir, Turkey)
Lauren Gish, Gr., UNCW (Mooresville, N.C.)
Arli and Gish captured both of their matches at No. 1 doubles as UNCW went 1-1 last week. The Seahawks’ tandem defeated Campbell’s Tamsin Hart and Veronika Prospalova, 6-3, to help earn the doubles point in a 6-1 team win. In a 6-1 setback to Charleston, Arli and Gish picked up an impressive 6-1 victory over the Cougars’ Slade Coetzee and Halli Trinkle.
