CAA Men’s Golf Championship Begins Sunday in South Carolina

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (April 22, 2023) – The CAA Men’s Golf Championship returns to Dataw Island for a 54-hole tournament that begins Sunday in South Carolina.
Ten CAA members will compete for team and individual titles on the par-72, 6,998-yard course with starts for the three rounds on Sunday and Monday at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 8 a.m.
UNCW is the top-seeded team entering the Championship with a top-100 GolfStat ranking entering the week.
Walker Isley, who finished third at last year’s tournament at Dataw, is ranked in the GolfStat individual ratings entering the Championship.
Patrick Sparks also returns for the Seahawks after a top 10 a year ago.
Elon returns top-10 finisher
Garrett Risner along with
Matt Doyle, who has turned in six top-10 finishes in 2022-23. The Phoenix finished fourth at last year’s Championship.
Defending champion
Charleston welcomes back 2022 medalist
Kieron van Wyk and
Zach Reuland, who placed in the top five a year ago. The Cougars won last year's title by 19 strokes over UNCW - their sixth in the last eight tournaments. van Wyk rates in the top 100 nationally in GolfStat entering the Championship.
Drexel looks to move up from a third-place result from a year ago and welcomes back
Drue Nicholas, who placed in the top five in 2022. Nicholas leads Drexel with a 71.8 scoring average this spring, while
Griffin Mitchell is at 72.2.
Delaware placed fifth at last year’s Championship and returns
Sparky Ariyachatvakin, who placed in the top 10 at Dataw a year ago.
William & Mary returns a top-10 finisher of its own in
Trevor Binau. The Blue Hens and Tribe are seeded fifth and sixth to begin the Championship.
Towson and CAA newcomer
North Carolina A&T will be in the second group to begin its day Sunday, while
Monmouth will play its first CAA Championship and join
Hofstra in teeing off first at 8:30 a.m. in the opening round. The Hawks’
Ethan Lee and Pride’s
Dino Capazario have both won events this month.
