CAA Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards - April 3

RICHMOND, Va. (April 3, 2023) – William & Mary sophomore Justyce Barber, Stony Brook graduate student Haley Dillon, Towson senior Olivia Malamphy and Monmouth freshman Shea Berigan are the CAA Women’s Lacrosse weekly award winners for their performances over the last week.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Justyce Barber, William & Mary
Sophomore | Midfield | Odessa, Fla. / Berkeley Preparatory School
Barber scored a career-high six goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to help William & Mary defeat Delaware and improve to 2-1 in CAA play. The sophomore from Florida entered the day with five goals on the season before erupting in a career-best performance and helping the Tribe to its best three-game CAA start since 2011 and best record through 11 overall games since 2016.
 
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Haley Dillon, Stony Brook
Graduate Student | Defense | Mount Sinai, N.Y. / Mount Sinai
Dillon contributed to a pair of solid defensive performances by No. 6 Stony Brook in wins over Johns Hopkins and Drexel. The graduate student from Long Island notched six ground balls and two caused turnovers in Wednesday’s 12-9 win in Baltimore before tallying four ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 15-3 home win Sunday. Dillon and the Stony Brook defense held Drexel to one goal in the opening three quarters as the Seawolves opened their inaugural CAA season 3-0 while improving to 8-2 overall.
 
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olivia Malamphy, Towson
Senior | Defense | Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding
Malamphy tallied a career-high five caused turnovers to help Towson stay in a tie for first in the CAA standings. The Towson defense forced Elon into 25 turnovers – more than 10 over their season average – to secure a 17-14 Tigers win and improve to 3-0 in CAA play along with an 8-3 overall record. Malamphy added two draw controls in the victory.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Shea Berigan, Monmouth
Freshman | Attack | Hingham, Mass. / Hingham
Berigan tied the game with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime in Monmouth’s 17-16 win over Hofstra on Saturday. The freshman from Massachusetts scored twice and added an assist as Monmouth improved to 2-1 in its first CAA slate after a third-straight one-goal game to open its league schedule. Berigan is Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after capturing the honor for the year’s first weekend.
