CAA Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – April 4

RICHMOND, Va. (April 4, 2023) – The CAA has announced its outdoor track and field weekly awards for the third week of the 2023 season. The men’s winners hail from the North Carolina as North Carolina A&T sophomore sprinter Reheem Hayles earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and UNCW sophomore thrower Ryan DeBarber received CAA Field Athlete of the Week accolades. On the women’s side, North Carolina A&T graduate sprinter Jada Griffin was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and Northeastern senior multi Dominique Brion garnered CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors. 
 
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jada Griffin, North Carolina A&T
Graduate | Sprints | Spring Lake, N.C. / Overhills 
Griffin opened her outdoor season with a league-leading time in the 400m at the Pepsi Florida Relays. The graduate sprinter posted a mark of 52.99 to take ninth in the event. She ranks eighth in the NCAA East Region and 15th nationally with her performance. In addition, Griffin competed in the 200m, running 23.87 to rank third in the CAA this spring. 
 
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dominique Biron, Northeastern
Senior | Combined Events | Bow, N.H. / Cushing Academy
Biron earned a top-10 finish in the heptathlon at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. In her first heptathlon this spring, Biron accumulated 5,392 points to finish tenth in the competition. She recorded four top-10 finishes, including a personal record in the 200m (24.69), the 100m hurdles (14.08), high jump (1.68m) and shot put (11.92m). It is the top mark in the CAA this season and ranks seventh in the NCAA East Region and ninth in the NCAA.   
 
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Reheem Hayles, North Carolina A&T
Sophomore | Sprints | Springfield Gardens, N.Y. / Springfield Gardens 
Hayles ran the nation’s top time in the 400m this season, winning the event at the Pepsi Florida Relays in 45.57. The time is not only first in the NCAA but the 10th fastest time in the world this season. The sophomore sprinter was also on the A&T 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams, which finished third and fifth, respectively. The Aggies ran 39.87 in the 4x100m relay to rank first in the CAA, 13th in the NCAA East Region and 30th nationally. A&T posted a league-leading time of 3:05.77 in the 4x400m relay, ranking ninth in the NCAA East Region and 18th in the NCAA.  
 
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ryan DeBarber, UNCW
Sophomore | Javelin | Enfield, Conn. / Enfield 
DeBarber recorded a league-leading mark in the javelin to win the event at the Bill Carson Invitational. The sophomore launched a personal-best throw of 66.04m (216-08.00). The mark ranks 27th in the NCAA East Region and is 46th nationally.
