W&M Women And UNCW Men Both Headed To Duke For NCAA Tennis Championships

RICHMOND, Va. (May 1, 2023) – CAA women’s tennis champion William & Mary and CAA men’s tennis champion UNCW are both headed to Duke University for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tennis Championship.

The Tribe (15-5) will face the 6th-seeded Blue Devils (22-4) at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 5 at Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C. The match will take place following the 2 p.m. contest between UCLA and Texas Tech. The winners from Friday’s action will meet on Saturday at 5 p.m.

William & Mary, which beat UNCW, 4-0, to earn its league-record 28th CAA championship, is making its 25th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tribe has 21 victories in its history, including an 18-14 record in the regionals. W&M’s most recent win came in 2008 vs. N.C. State in a regional played at Duke.

The Seahawks (17-7) will take on 12th-seeded Duke (20-6) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6 at Ambler Tennis Stadium. The match will follow the 11 a.m. clash between Auburn and Cornell. The winners from Saturday’s contests will meet on Sunday at 2 p.m.

UNCW, which defeated Elon, 4-1, on Sunday to capture its third straight CAA title, is making its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance in 14 seasons. The Seahawks are 1-9 all-time in the event, posting their lone victory in 2013.
