Delaware Prepped for First-Round Matchup against No. 1 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. (May 13, 2023) – CAA Men’s Lacrosse Champion Delaware continues in the NCAA Tournament with a First-Round matchup against No. 1 Duke at 5 p.m. from Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C., on the campus of Duke University. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU and can be seen via the ESPN app.
Delaware (13-4), which has won eight of its past nine contests, earned a 25-10 win over Marist in the Opening Round of the NCAA Tournament, breaking the CAA all-time record for goals scored in a game.
Mike Robinson and CAA Offensive Player of the Year,
Tye Kurtz, paced the record-setting performance with eight points apiece. Robinson tallied seven goals and one assist, while Kurtz recorded his fourth game this season with five goals and added three helpers. In addition,
JP Ward totaled seven points on four goals and three assists, while
Cam Acchione registered a hat trick with two helpers for five points.
The Blue Hens improved their goal-differential to +96 this season, as Delaware ranks third nationally in scoring defense (9.29) and sixth in scoring offense (14.94).
Duke (13-2) has been arguably the top team in the country all season. The Blue Devils also rank top five nationally in scoring margin (4.67), with the fourth-best scoring offense (15.33).
The Blue Devils’ potent attack is led by Brennan O’Neil, who is third in the NCAA in points per game (5.33). He is one of three players with 50-plus points, recording 80 on 44 goals and 36 assists. In addition, Dyson Williams leads the team with 51 goals and ranks seventh in the country in goals per game (3.40).
The all-time series between Delaware and Duke is tied at seven games apiece. The Blue Devils have won four straight in the series, including last season, 19-14.
