NORMAN, Okla. and SALEM, S.C. (May 15, 2023) – UNCW freshman Rune Bokeid recorded a pair of birdies and finished with an even-par 72 in his NCAA regional debut on Monday in the Norman Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.

The Seahawks enter the second round in 12th place overall while fifth-ranked Texas Tech leads the 14-team field at 10-under. Ninth-ranked Oklahoma sits in second, one stroke behind the Red Raiders. Alabama, Duke and Colorado round out the top five, in order.

Bokeid played steady golf all afternoon, posting 14 pars, two bogeys and a pair of birdies coming on the fifth and 12th holes.

The Seahawks begin the second round at 10:25 a.m. EST on Hole 10. They will be paired with Princeton and Wake Forest, who are tied for ninth and 11th place, respectively.
 
Charleston sophomore Kieron van Wyk ended the opening round of the NCAA Salem Regional even at the par 72 The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. van Wyk is battling to be the top individual not on an advancing team in order to qualify for NCAA Nationals.

The CAA Golfer of the Year scored five birdies, three on a strong back nine performance before finishing the day with an eagle on No. 9. The sophomore is currently T42 and will resume competition in the second round at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday.
