UNCW Six-Under in Second Round of NCAA Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. and SALEM, S.C. (May 16, 2023) - UNCW's Walker Isley posted five birdies and jumped 23 spots into a tie for 12th in the standings to highlight UNCW's second-round performance on Tuesday at the NCAA Norman Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

The Seahawks fashioned a six-under-par 282 to move up one spot in the standings into 11th at two-over through 36 holes.

Alabama took over the regional lead at 15-under after carding and eight-under-par 280 in the second round. Host Oklahoma is two shots back of the Crimson Tide while Texas Tech and Colorado are both 11 shots back and tied for third. North Florida rounds out the top five at fifth.

Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg took over the medalist lead in the second round at nine-under.

Isley, who began the round on the back nine, was even par through his first nine holes. However, on the front nine, he posted four birdies. He posted birdies on holes five and six to drop to three under and then added another on the eighth hole.

Freshman Rune Bokeid joined Isley in the top 20 after going two-under in the second round and enters the third round tied for 18th.

While Isley climbed the standings, Patrick Sparks was the biggest gainer of the day for UNCW. The junior fashioned a five-under, UNCW NCAA regional-record tying 67 on Tuesday and rose 30 spots in the standings to 26th.

The third and final round tees off for UNCW at 10:25 a.m. ET/9:25 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

In South Carolina, Charleston's Kieron van Wyk carded a 70 in his second round of action at the Salem Regional. van Wyk, who was three-under on the back nine and tallied six birdies on the day, will tee off his final round at 10:12 a.m. Wednesday.
