Over 50 CAA Track & Field Student-Athletes Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary

WOMEN'S QUALIFIERS | MEN'S QUALIFIERS

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 18, 2023)
– On Thursday, 53 CAA student-athletes were announced as individual qualifiers for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.
 
Thirty-one women representing 11 institutions and 22 men from all eight programs qualified for regional competition, up from 18 total athletes in 2022. In addition, four CAA relay teams made the cut, including the North Carolina A&T and William & Mary 4x4s on the women’s side and the A&T 4x1 and 4x4 on the men’s side.
 
On the women’s side, Hampton led the way with six individual qualifiers, who will be competing in a league-best seven events. In addition, Delaware had a program-best five individual qualifiers, while Northeastern and Towson each had four. North Carolina A&T graduate sprinter Jada Griffin qualified in three events – 200m, 400m, 4x400m Relay – to lead all female student-athletes. 
 
For the men, UNCW and Northeastern had five individual qualifiers, with the Seahawks and Huskies competing across five events. Additionally, Monmouth had four individual qualifiers, including three in the javelin, while North Carolina A&T sophomore sprinter Reheem Hayles qualified in a league-high four events (200m, 400m, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay). 
 
The NCAA preliminary meets are from Wednesday, May 24, to Saturday, May 27, in Jacksonville, Fla. (East) and Sacramento, Calif. (West). The top 12 performers from each region will advance to the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
