Huskies Head to New Jersey for 2023 NCAA Rowing Championship

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (May 25, 2023)
– The Northeastern women’s rowing team will compete against the top crews in the nation this weekend at the 2023 NCAA Rowing Championships on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. The competition begins on Friday, May 26, and continues through Sunday, May 28.
 
The Huskies will make their ninth straight appearance at the NCAA Championships and 12th overall. Previously, Northeastern has recorded three top-10 team finishes at the NCAA Championships, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in 1998. The Huskies Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight are seeded 18th, while their Varsity Four is seeded 20th.
 
The Northeastern Varsity Eight will get things started on Friday, competing in heat two at 9:12 a.m. against No. 11 Michigan, No. 2 Texas, No. 10 Syaracuse and No. 14 Duke.

The Huskies’ Second Varsity Eight will follow at 10 a.m. in heat two, facing the field of No. 12 SMU, No. 1 Princeton, No. 7 California and No. 16 Rutgers. 

The Varsity Four will wrap up the action on day one at 11:12 a.m. in heat four versus No. 13 Ohio State, No. 1 Princeton, No. 4 Stanford, No. 10 Syracuse and Jacksonville.
 
The top two crews from each heat advance to the A/B semifinal. The remaining crews go to the Repechage on Friday afternoon. The top two from each Rep advance to the A/B semifinals, while the remaining five crews race in the C/D semifinals. The two sets of semifinals are raced on Saturday morning. In the A/B semifinals, the top three advance to the A final to compete for places 1-6. The remaining three crews will race in the B final for places 7-12. The top three crews from each of the C/D semifinals will advance to the C final, where they will compete for places 13-18, while the remaining two crews will race in the D final for places 19-22.
 
The team championship is composed of 22 teams. Eleven conferences were awarded automatic qualification, and the remaining 11 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the championship field. Teams qualifying for the championship as an automatic qualifier or as an at-large are required to field two boats of eight rowers and one boat of four rowers.
