Monmouth’s Niedrowski Qualifies for NCAA Championships on Day One of East Preliminaries 5/24/2023 9:51:40 PM Hunter Peters RESULTS JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 24, 2023) – Monmouth sophomore Evan Niedrowski punched his ticket to Austin, qualifying for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on day one of the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries. In addition, six runners passed through to the quarterfinals and will be back in action on Friday, May 26. Niedrowski finished seventh in the javelin with a mark of 71.88m (235-10.00), advancing to the National Championships for the second straight season. On June 7, the All-American will look to improve on his 11th-place finish last year at Mike A. Meyers Stadium. North Carolina A&T teammates Reheem Hayles and Shemar Chambers advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400m, and Northeastern hurdlers Ethan Exilhomme and Cory Gaither Jr. qualified in 110 and 400m hurdles. UNCW’s Josh Parks joined Exilhomme, moving on in the 110m hurdles, and Hampton’s Dugion Blackman passed through in the 800m Hayles won his heat, and Chambers finished second to advance to the next round. Hayles posted a time of 45.93, which was the fifth-best overall, while Chambers ran 46.24 to rank 12th. The A&T duo will be back in action at 6:50 p.m. on Friday. Exilhomme and Parks earned AQ bids after finishing third in their respective heats. Exilhomme ran 13.60 (w) to rank 12th overall, while Parks finished tied for 15th with a time of 13.65 (w). The two will be back in action at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Blackman finished third in his heat with a time of 1:49.27, which was 13th overall. The CAA Champion is back in action at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, looking to advance to the National Championships for the first time after missing the cut by one spot last season. Gaither qualified on time, running 51.48 to finish fifth in his heat and 19th overall. He continues to the next round at 7:25 p.m. on Friday. Parks, competing in his second event of the evening, finished 39th (53.45). Hayles doubled back and placed 30th in the 200m. The All-CAA honoree posted a time of 20.80 in his second of four events this week. Nicholas Pisciotta of Northeastern finished the season with a 32nd-place effort in the hammer throw, improving on a 36th-place finish last year. The two-time CAA Hammer Throw Champion recorded his best mark on his final throw, measuring 59.89m (196-06.00). Five CAA throwers competed in the javelin in addition to Niedrowski. Monmouth’s Chris Bagnell finished 34th (62.13m), while UNCW’s Ryan DeBarber (61.47m), William & Mary’s Chris Arias (61.36m), Miles Higgins (60.69m) of UNCW and Taylor Boorse (59.86m) of Monmouth placed 38th through 41st in the event. It marks the third trip to the NCAA East Preliminaries for Arias, while Bagnell, Boorse, DeBarber and Higgins made their NCAA Postseason debuts. UNCW junior Nickolis Anderson was the third participant for the conference in the 400m, finishing his season with a 38th-place finish (47.65). Anderson, who ran earned All-CAA honors in the event, was the third Seahawk to make his NCAA Regional debut. Stony Brook teammates Robert Becker and Evan Brennan concluded the season running in the 1500 and 10,000m, respectively. Brennan, the CAA Champion in the 10K, posted a time of 30:35.37 to finish 36th overall in his second straight NCAA East Regional. Becker concluded his career with a 40th-place finish in the 1500m, recording a time of 3:49.36 in his third consecutive appearance at the NCAA East Prelims.
