Delaware's Abidullina and Askarova Selected To NCAA Women's Tennis Doubles Championship

RICHMOND, Va. (May 3, 2023) – Delaware graduate student Adel-Byanu Abidullina and senior Eliza Askarova have been selected to participate in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Doubles Championship, which will be held May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

The Blue Hens’ duo will be one of 32 teams competing for the national title. They received automatic qualification after being ranked in the ITA Top 60 at the conclusion of the season.

Abidullina and Askarova had a spectacular season, posting a 29-2 overall record, including a 17-1 mark in dual matches. They went 4-2 against other nationally ranked opponents and are currently on a seven-match winning streak. Abidullina and Askraova reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Fall National Championships after winning the ITA Atlantic Region Doubles Championship.

They were the first Delaware women’s team to ever be nationally ranked and rose to as high as No. 3 in the ITA rankings. Currently, Abidullina and Askarova are ranked No. 36.

Abidullina and Askarova are the first CAA players to participate in the NCAA Doubles Championship since 2015.
