CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship Commences Thursday at Towson

RICHMOND, Va. (May 4, 2023) – CAA Women’s Lacrosse regular season champion Stony Brook will face Delaware and host Towson will take on defending champion Drexel in semifinal action Thursday at Towson’s Tiger Field.
Delaware upended Towson, 13-9, at Delaware Stadium, while Drexel pushed past Monmouth, 18-14, at Vidas Field to join Stony Brook and Towson, who had clinched the top two seeds with last Saturday’s results.
Stony Brook is the No. 1 seed in its first CAA Championship after an unblemished 7-0 mark in league play by an average of 11.6 goals per game. The Seawolves are aiming for their 10
th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after winning eight straight America East titles from 2013-21 and qualifying as an at-large in 2022 with a regular-season championship. Stony Brook is 12-3 overall entering the CAA Championship.
The Seawolves will meet No. 4 seed Delaware in Thursday’s first semifinal (12 p.m., LacrosseTV) thanks to the Blue Hens’ first win over Towson since 2015. Delaware, which is playing in back-to-back CAA Championships for the first time since 2017 and 2018, will aim for its first appearance in the title game since 2009. Delaware went 8-7 in the regular season with a 4-3 mark in league play.

Towson will be the No. 2 seed on its home turf and is in the CAA Championship field for the 15
th consecutive season. The Tigers are 10-6 on the year and went 5-2 in league play; Towson, which is aiming for its first CAA title since 2016, will be the No. 2 seed by virtue of a head-to-head win over Drexel in March.
The Tigers will face No. 3 seed Drexel in a rematch of last year’s title game (2:30 p.m., LacrosseTV) after Drexel withstood a Monmouth barrage in Philadelphia on Saturday to earn a spot in the CAA Championship on the season’s final day. Drexel is 12-4 entering the CAA Championship with a 5-2 mark in league play; the Dragons’ three straight CAA Championship appearances matches the program record from 2011-13.

Lindsey Marshall paced the Tigers with a five-point afternoon, while the Towson defense held Drexel to four goals in the first 45 minutes. It was the first meeting between the teams since the 2022 CAA title game, when
Allison Drake struck in overtime with the game-winner for the CAA Championship.
The winners of Thursday’s semifinals will meet for the CAA title on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. All three games of the CAA Championship can be seen on LacrosseTV with Chris Marshall and Kylie Ohlmiller on the broadcasts. The CAA’s automatic qualifier and potential at-large selections will be announced Sunday, May 7, at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
