W&M's Gurholt Headlines 2023 CAA Women's Tennis Postseason Award Winners

RICHMOND, Va. (May 5, 2023) – William & Mary sophomore
Hedda Gurholt was selected as the 2023 CAA Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, headlining the group of postseason award winners voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Eda Arli was chosen as the CAA Rookie of the Year and William & Mary’s
Jessica Giuggioli was honored as the CAA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Gurholt compiled a 15-3 record in dual match singles competition at the No. 1 position for the Tribe and is currently on a nine-match winning streak. She was named the Most Outstanding Player at the CAA Women’s Tennis Championship after going 3-0 to lead William & Mary to its league-record 28
th title. Gurholt, who was the CAA Co-Rookie of the Year in 2022, is the fifth different player from William & Mary to be chosen as CAA Player of the Year since 2016.
Arli put together an 11-8 record while competing at the No. 2 singles slot for UNCW. The Seahawks’ freshman was 3-0 in the CAA Tournament, helping UNCW reach the championship match for the first time since 2017. She also excelled in doubles, going 12-7 with partner Lauren Gish at the No. 1 position. Arli is UNCW’s first CAA Rookie of the Year honoree since 2014.
Giuggioli guided the Tribe to an impressive 15-5 overall record, capped by capturing back-to-back CAA championships with a victory over UNCW in the finals. The 15 victories are the most since 2017. William & Mary, which was a perfect 14-0 at home this season, will compete in the NCAA Tournament later this evening against 6
th-ranked Duke.
