Elon Wins Third Straight CAA Women's Track & Field Championship

Final Women's Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 6, 2023) – Elon used strong performances across multiple events to win the CAA Women’s Track & Field Championship for the third year in a row on Saturday at Zable Stadium on the campus of William & Mary.
The Phoenix, who are the first team to capture three straight titles since 2010, finished with 185 total points. Conference newcomer Hampton placed second with 124 points and William & Mary was third with 90 points. North Carolina A&T scored 87 points to take fourth in its first CAA championship and was followed by Delaware (78.5), Northeastern (72), Towson (70), Monmouth (41), UNCW (30.5), Charleston (20), Stony Brook (15) and Hofstra (6).
North Carolina A&T’s Jada Griffin was chosen as the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet after posting victories in the 200 and 400 meters and anchoring the Aggies’ champion 4X400 relay team. Northeastern’s Dominique Biron was voted as the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet following her victory in the heptathlon and second-place finish in the long jump.
Griffin set a new CAA meet and all-time record in the 400 meters with a time of 52.26, while Biron shattered her own CAA meet record in the heptathlon with 5,505 points. Elon’s 4X100 relay team of Meghan Wilcox, Kalli’Ana Botelho, Piper Jons and Reese Webster broke a 16-year-old conference meet mark with a time of 44.91. North Carolina A&T’s Paula Salmon topped the meet record she set just yesterday in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.25. Hampton’s Dejah Grant eclipsed the CAA meet record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.79. North Carolina A&T’s 4X400 relay team closed the day with a new meet record of 3:35.87.
Women’s Shot Put
North Carolina A&T’s Julieth Nwosu won the women’s shot put with a throw of 15.88m (52-1.25). Placing second was Hampton’s Nya Harmon with a throw of 15.68m (51-5.5) and in third was William & Mary’s Keeley Suzenski with a throw of 15.00m (49-2.5).
Women’s 4X100 Relay
Elon’s team of Meghan Wilcox, Kalli’Ana Botelho, Piper Jons and Reese Webster broke the CAA meet record in the women’s 4X100 relay with a time of 44.91, topping the previous mark of 45.07 set in 2007. North Carolina A&T finished second in a time of 45.12 and Towson was third with a time of 45.38.
Women’s Triple Jump
Manie Mevo became Towson’s first-ever CAA champion in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 12.35m (40-6.25). Placing second was Elon’s Linn Hertz Saebbo with a jump of 12.32m (40-5) and in third was Hampton’s Dieusi Armand with a leap of 12.22m (40-1.25).
Women’s 1,500 Meters
Elon’s Leandra Lorenz won gold in the women’s 1500 meters for the second year in a row with a time of 4:36.60. Taking second was Elon teammate Jette Beermann with a time of 4:37.61 and placing third with a time of 4:37.65 was Charleston’s Rhian Purves.
Women’s 100m Hurdles
North Carolina A&T’s Paula Salmon broke the CAA meet record she set yesterday in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line in 13.25 to earn gold. Aggies’ teammate Lucheyona Weaver placed second in a time of 13.34 and third place went to Hampton’s Maya Seay with a time of 13.78.
Women’s 400 Meters
North Carolina A&T’s Jada Griffin broke the CAA meet and all-time record (52.79 in 2010) in the 400 meters with a winning time of 52.26. Coming in second with a time of 53.01 was Delaware’s Halima Scott and in third place with a time of 53.39 was Hampton’s Dejah Grant.
Women’s 100 Meters
Reese Webster became Elon’s first-ever CAA champion in the 100 meters with a time of 11.70. Just behind in second was Towson’s Maya Tucker with a time of 11.73 and taking third was Elon’s Meghan Wilcox with a time of 11.87.
Women’s 800 Meters
Monmouth’s Ashley Navarro earned the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.80. Second place went to Hampton’s Jordan Mozie with a time of 2:09.42 and finishing third was Stony Brook’s Samantha Rutt with a time of 2:09.67.
Heptathlon
Northeastern’s Dominique Biron captured the heptathlon for the third consecutive season, shattering her own CAA meet record with a personal best of 5,505 points. Elon’s Kalli’Ana Botelho placed second with 5,091 points and Northeastern’s Kennedee Cox was third with 4,830 points.
Women’s 400m Hurdles
Hampton’s Dejah Grant eclipsed the CAA meet record in the 400m hurdles with a winning time of 57.79, topping the previous mark of 58.50. Coming in second was Hampton teammate Kayla Spencer with a time of 58.16 and Delaware’s Marie-Frederiq Poulin was third in a time of 58.83.
Women’s 200 Meters
North Carolina A&T’s Jada Griffin picked up her second gold of the afternoon, just missing a CAA meet record in the 200 meters by .03 with a time of 23.51. Towson took the next two podium spots with Maya Tucker finishing second in 23.94 and Cristal Cuervo taking third in 23.96.
Women’s High Jump
North Carolina A&T’s Kenady Wilson claimed the high jump title, clearing the bar at 1.74m (5-08.5). Finishing second was Towson’s Leeann Redlo with a jump of 1.68m (5-06) and in third was Monmouth’s Veronica Chaynov with a jump of 1.65m (5-05).
Women’s Discus
Delaware’s Myrissa McFolling-Young earned the victory in the women’s discus with a throw of 53.32m (174-11). Coming in second was Hampton’s Nya Harmon with a throw of 50.70m (166-04) and Pirates’ teammate Kamaria Horton was third with a throw of 50.00m (164-0).
Women’s 5000 Meters
Elon’s Leandra Lorenz used a late kick to claim her second gold medal of the afternoon, winning the 5,000 meters for the second consecutive season in a time of 16:33.61. Close behind in second was William & Mary’s Sofia Istnick with a time of 16.33.99 and in third place was Elon’s Katie Blount with a time of 16:34.08.
Women’s 4X400 Relay
North Carolina A&T capped its day with a record-setting performance in the 4X400 relay as the team of Pebbles Scott, Fajr Kelly, Mykayla Perry and Jada Griffin set a new meet mark with a time of 3:35.87. Narrowly behind in second was William & Mary in a time of 3:35.97 and placing third was Hampton in a time of 3:41.06.
