Northeastern Captures Eighth Consecutive CAA Men's Track & Field Championship

Final Men's Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (May 6, 2023) – Northeastern used four event wins on the final day to earn its record-setting eighth consecutive CAA Men’s Track & Field Championship on Saturday at Zable Stadium on the campus of William & Mary.
The Huskies finished with 194 total points to edge out league newcomer Monmouth with 183 points. North Carolina A&T placed third in its inaugural CAA championship with 123 points, followed by William & Mary (90.5), UNCW (84.5), Hampton (68), Stony Brook (56) and Hofstra (6).
Northeastern’s Benjamin Godish was selected as the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet after earning gold medals in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. William & Mary’s Jason Nwosu was chosen as the Most Outstanding Field Performer following a victory in the shot put, a fourth-place effort in the discus and a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw.
Men’s Shot Put
William & Mary’s Jason Nwosu captured the men’s shot put on the final throw of day, posting a mark of 16.61m (54-06). North Carolina A&T took the next two spots on the podium with Brayden Hodgest placing second with a throw of 16.49m (54-1.25) and Carlos Alexander finishing third with a throw of 16.34m (53-7.5).z
Men’s 4X100 Relay
North Carolina A&T’s team of Brandon Nya, Shemar Chambers, Ryan Saint-Germaine and Reheem Hayles won the men’s 4X100 relay with a time of 40.46, which was the fastest at the CAA meet since 2016. Second place went to Northeastern in a time of 40.82 and Hampton was third with a time of 40.86.
Men’s High Jump
Monmouth’s Keven Kevelier claimed first place in the high jump with a leap of 2.04m (6-8.25). Also clearing the bar at 2.04m (6-8.25) were UNCW’s Donovan Lara, who took second, and Monmouth’s Rickie Casazza, who placed third.
Men’s 1,500 Meters
Northeastern’s Benjamin Godish used a strong finishing kick to win the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:43.60, which was just .30 off the meet record. Close behind in second was Stony Brook’s Robert Becker with a time of 3:43.95 and Monmouth’s Louis DiLaurenzio was third with a time of 3:45.19.
Men’s 110m Hurdles
Northeastern’s Ethan Exilhomme claimed the top spot in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.78, which was the second-best time in meet history. Defending champion Josh Parks of UNCW was second with a time of 13.84 and Northeastern’s Cory Gaither, Jr. was third with a time of 14.13.
Men’s 400 Meters
North Carolina A&T’s Reheem Hayles held off a late surge from teammate Shemar Chambers in the men’s 400 meters. Hayles crossed the line in 45.74, which was the fastest time in the event since 2013, while Chambers posted a time of 45.77. Finishing third was UNCW’s Nickolis Anderson with a time of 46.27.
Men’s 100 Meters
Northeastern’s Noah Sweeney sprinted to gold in the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.59. Placing second was Stony Brook’s Patrick Abel with a time of 10.78 and finishing third with a time of 10.78 was Hampton’s Qhiyal Towns.
Men’s 800 Meters
Hampton’s Dugion Blackman never trailed in the men’s 800 meters and posted a gold medal time of 1:47.69, which was the fastest at the CAA championship since 1999. Monmouth’s Ian Moore was second in a time of 1:50.84 and William & Mary’s Stephen Larson was third in a time of 1:51.54.
Decathlon
William & Mary’s Daniel Layton repeated as the CAA champion in the decathlon with 6,640 points. Monmouth’s David Strong took second with 6,165 points and finishing third with 5,731 points was Northeastern’s Paul Wisnaskas.
Men’s 400m Hurdles
UNCW’s Josh Parks took gold in the 400m hurdles for the second consecutive year with a time of 50.48, which is the second-fastest in CAA meet history. Finishing second in 51.03 was Northeastern’s Cory Gaither, Jr. and third place went to Monmouth’s Jordan Ricketts with a time of 52.93.
Men’s 200 Meters
North Carolina A&T claimed the top two spots in the 200 meters with Shemar Chambers crossing the line first in 20.97 and teammate Reheem Hayles close behind in 21.21. Finishing third was Northeastern’s Noah Sweeney in 21.27.
Men’s Triple Jump
Monmouth’s Ahmad Brock finished atop the men’s triple jump with a winning leap of 14.72m (48-3.5). Teammate Keven Kevelier placed second with a jump of 14.36m (47-1.5) and Hampton’s Kelvin Fonville was third with a jump of 14.30m (46-11).
Men’s 5000 Meters
Northeastern’s Benjamin Godish claimed his second gold medal of the afternoon in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 14:08.00. Placing second was Stony Brook’s Shane Henderson with a time of 14:10.96 and third place went to Northeastern’s Patrick Cantlon with a time of 14:25.15.
Men’s 4X400 Relay
The North Carolina A&T team of Caleb Jackson, Brandon Nya, Jayden Crosby and Thomas Smith closed the day with a victory in the 4X400 relay, crossing the line in 3:13.94. Taking second was Monmouth in 3:15.08 and coming in third was Northeastern in a time of 3:18.49.
