Stony Brook, Drexel Headed to NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (May 7, 2023) – For the sixth time in the last seven seasons, the CAA will send multiple teams to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, as CAA Champion Stony Brook is joined by at-large selection Drexel in the field of 29 teams announced Sunday night.
Stony Brook will head to Baltimore for its NCAA Tournament opener, as the Seawolves will face Penn State in a game Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Loyola. Drexel will visit familiar territory in Harrisonburg, Virginia, for a 5 p.m. contest against Maryland hosted by James Madison. Both contests can be seen on ESPN+.
Stony Brook enters the NCAA Tournament at 14-3 after a 7-0 showing in the CAA and a 19-4 win over Towson in the CAA Championship final on Saturday. The Seawolves are in the top five nationally in scoring defense and hold wins over a trio of NCAA Tournament teams in Drexel, Johns Hopkins, and Michigan. Drexel is 12-5 with a scoring defense in the top 20 nationally and victories over NCAA Tournament teams Johns Hopkins and Fairfield.
Drexel’s inclusion as an at-large selection is the CAA’s ninth since 2016 and sends the Dragons to their third-consecutive NCAA Tournament. Stony Brook is in its 10
th-straight tournament.
