Charleston Pulls Closer Entering Final Day of NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals; UNCW’s Fobes Completes Second Round

RALEIGH, N.C. and ATHENS, Ga. (May 9, 2023) – CAA women’s golf champion Charleston pulled closer in the race for the final advancing spot from the NCAA Athens Regional, as the Cougars shot 293 to keep themselves in striking distance entering the third round.
 
Charleston improved by 16 shots from a day ago at the University of Georgia Golf Course with the 5-over performance ranking fifth out of 12 teams Tuesday. Adrian Anderson and Viktoria Hund were both even on the day with the highlight of the afternoon Hund’s ace on 13. Emma Schimpf was 1-over in the second round and is tied for 12th through 36 holes, while Othilie Lied turned in a 76.
 
Charleston closed to within 11 strokes of the three-way tie for fifth between Augusta, Ohio State, and Ole Miss for the final advancing spot. The Cougars will tee off at 9:06 a.m. on Wednesday.
 
In Raleigh, UNCW senior Mallory Fobes carded a 77 on the second day of play at Lonnie Poole Golf Course and is at 4-over through 36 holes, currently in 32nd place. Fobes will tee off her final round at 8:55 a.m. on Wednesday.
