BRISTOL, Conn. (May 9, 2023) – Two CAA men’s lacrosse student-athletes were selected in the Premier Lacrosse League Draft for the second straight season on Tuesday night. Delaware redshirt senior defenseman
Owen Grant and redshirt senior attackman Tye Kurtz were selected in the 2023 PLL College Draft.
Grant was the second overall pick in the first round by Redwoods Lacrosse Club, and Kurtz went 17 overall in the third round by Chaos Lacrosse Club. The PLL draft began in 2019, and the CAA has had at least one men’s lacrosse student-athlete drafted in all five years of the professional league draft (2019-2023). Grant is the highest pick in league history, joining Koby Smith, Zach Goodrich and Alex Woodfall of Towson, who were all first-round selections, top-5 overall.
Grant, a three-time All-America honoree, garnered his third straight CAA Defensive Player of the Year accolade this spring, becoming the only player in league history to complete the feat. The Newmarket, Ont. native has a Delaware program record of 123 caused turnovers in his career. Grant has 30-plus caused turnovers in the past two seasons, including a single-season program record 35 last year. The three-time First Team All-CAA selection tallied 169 career ground balls, recording 25 points on 19 goals and six assists.
Kurtz, a three-time All-CAA selection, culminated his career with CAA Offensive Player of the Year accolades in 2023. The Puslinch, Ont. native broke the CAA career records for points and goals this season. Kurtz has 270 points on 171 goals and 99 assists during his five-year career. In addition, the attackman holds the CAA single-game record for points with a career-high 11 on March 6, 2021.
