Northeastern's Wilhelm Earns CRCA Regional Coach of the Year Honors

BOSTON, Mass. (June 5, 2023) — Head coach Joe Wilhelm of the Northeastern women's rowing team was named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Region 2 Coach of the Year, while the Huskies' staff earned Region 2 Staff of the Year honors.
 
Northeastern's staff consists of associate head coach Andrew Wieler, assistant coach Ariel Handler, rigger Richard Schroeder, volunteer assistant coach Richie Nary and athletic trainer Emily Granger.
 
Wilhelm and his staff earned a ninth-consecutive CAA title and trip to the NCAA Championship this season. Northeastern finished as the 18th best crew in the nation at the national championship regatta, the program's best finish since 2017.
 
Wilhelm earned CAA Coach of the Year honors for a conference-best 10th time in 2023 and helped guide the Huskies four All-Conference honorees in Charlotte KershawGrace O'ConnorIris Cotrupi and Tess Miller.
 
Northeastern earned Staff of the Year honors alongside the Patriot League Champion Naval Academy. Region 2 consists of three conferences, the CAA, Patriot League and MAAC, and is the largest of the five regions. Regional awards are voted on by the membership of the CRCA. The Regional Coach of the Year Award is intended to recognize a head coach that fits one or more of the following criteria: outstanding success during the current season, demonstrated great team improvement from the prior season, fulfilled team's potential and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach. The Staff of the Year Award is intended to recognize those whose teams have had outstanding success throughout the current season and have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as coaches.
