AUSTIN, Texas (June 8, 2023)
– North Carolina A&T hurdler Paula Salmon advanced to the finals of the 100m hurdles and broke her own conference record in the event to highlight day two of the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

In addition, Delaware senior Megan Albamonti earned a top-10 finish in the javelin to collect Second Team All-America honors, and A&T’s Jada Griffin reset a conference record en route to All-America honorable mention recognition.

Salmon qualified for the 100m hurdle finals on time, running a wind-legal 12.91 to make her the first woman in conference history to run sub-13 in the event. The graduate hurdler has run her best in the postseason, posting sub-13 times in her previous three races, although both runs at the East Prelims were wind-aided. The All-American returns to the finals for the second straight season after finishing fourth overall a year ago.

Salmon was the second-ever CAA student-athlete to make Nationals in the 100m hurdles and became the first in league history to advance to the finals. She will be back in action at 9:42 p.m. on Saturday in pursuit of a National Title.

Albamonti placed ninth in her NCAA Championship debut to earn Second Team All-America status. The senior recorded her best mark on her first throw of the night, launching the implement 54.46m (178-08.00). The throw was her second-best this season, capping off a year in which she threw over 50 meters in all eight competitions. Albamonti was the fifth student-athlete in conference history to compete in the javelin at the National Championships and the first since 2008. Her performance was the third-best all-time for the league in the event.

Griffin became the first woman in CAA history to run under 52 seconds in the 400m, besting her league record time from the CAA Championship with a lifetime best mark of 51.69. The graduate sprinter finished sixth in the first heat and placed 17th overall in her NCAA Championship debut. Griffin, the fourth CAA student-athlete to qualify for NCAA Championships in the 400m, had the best performance in the event since 1999 and the second-best ever on the National stage for the conference.
