Four CAA Football Standouts Named To Walter Payton Award Watch List

35 Standouts Named to 2023 Walter Payton Award Watch List | The Analyst

RICHMOND, Va. (August 2, 2023) – New Hampshire senior running back/returner Dylan Laube, UAlbany sophomore quarterback Resse Poffenbarger, Monmouth junior running back Jaden Shirden and William & Mary senior running back Bronson Yoder have been named to the 2023 Walter Payton Award Preseason Watch List by Stats Perform.

The Walter Payton Award, presented by FedEx Ground, honors the top offensive player in FCS football. The preseason Watch List includes 35 players from all 13 FCS conferences.

Laube received first-team All-America honors in 2022 after leading the FCS in all-purpose yardage (194.3 ypg). He rushed for 1,205 yards and 15 TD’s, caught 49 passes for 464 yards and 2 TD’s, averaged 25.8 yards with a TD on kick returns and averaged 13.7 yards with a TD on punt returns.

Poffenbarger was the CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 after completing 227-of-369 passes for 2,999 yards and 24 TD’s with only four interceptions. He threw for over 240 yards in nine of 11 games and had eight games with multiple TD passes.

Shirden topped the FCS in rushing last season with 1,722 yards and 13 TD’s on 206 carries (8.4 ypc). He ran for 100 or more yards nine times and had four games of 200+ yards to earn CAA Offensive Player of the Year honors. Shirden finished third in the voting for the Walter Payton Award in 2022.

Yoder rushed for 1,255 yards and 13 TD’s on 203 carries (6.2 ypc). He ran for over 100 yards seven times and scored a rushing TD in nine contests. The first-team All-CAA selection also averaged 20.2 yards on kickoff returns.
