RICHMOND, Va. (Aug. 24, 2023) – CAA men’s soccer begins its 2023 season on Thursday, field hockey and volleyball follow on Friday, and the league’s women’s soccer squads play their second week of competition.
Field Hockey
CAA Field Hockey begins 2023 with three teams facing nationally ranked opponents during the opening weekend of competition. On Friday, Northeastern travels to No. 9 Louisville at 5 p.m. (ACCNX) as the Huskies start the Pam Spuehler era. On Sunday, Monmouth opens its 2023 campaign by entertaining No. 15 UConn at noon (FloLive), while simultaneously preseason favorite Delaware concludes a trip to the Commonwealth versus No. 18 Old Dominion. Last fall, CAA Field Hockey knocked off four nationally-ranked opponents. Northeastern earned one of those victories, and William & Mary accounted for the additional three. Volleyball
Eleven CAA Volleyball teams open the 2023 season this weekend, with over 30 matches on the docket. Highlighting the slate is the defending CAA Champions, Towson, visiting South Carolina for back-to-back contests. The Tigers will face the Gamecocks at 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday, with both games on SECN+. In addition, Campbell, North Carolina A&T and Northeastern begin the season on the road against Power Five competition. The Fighting Camels start their CAA tenure with a tournament at Colorado, facing the host Buffalos on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Aggies head to Charlottesville for the Cavalier Classic, opening against Rutgers on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Huskies head to the Wake Forest Invitational, where they conclude the weekend with a matchup against the Demon Decans on Saturday at 5 p.m. (ACCNX). Furthermore, four teams – Charleston, Delaware, Hofstra and UNCW – begin the fall by hosting tournaments. The invitationals will combine to produce 12 matches on FloVolleyball, headlined by Charleston hosting West Virginia at 7 p.m. on Saturday. |

Men’s Soccer
All but one of the league’s 11 teams opens its season its season Thursday evening. The first two teams to begin play will be Northeastern (at UMass) and William & Mary (vs. Binghamton) in 5 p.m. contests, with the Tribe’s match available on FloFC. Two CAA teams will host opponents receiving votes in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Top 25 when Delaware welcomes Rutgers and Campbell hosts South Carolina; both contests will kick off at 7 p.m. on FloFC. In other Thursday action, Stony Brook (LIU), Monmouth (Temple), UNCW (American), and Hofstra (Marist) will be at home on FloFC, while Drexel heads to Saint Joseph’s and Charleston visits Stetson. Elon will be the lone team in action on Friday, facing Furman in Durham.
A four-game Sunday begins when Elon hosts Jacksonville (2 p.m., FloFC) before three evening matches, including Campbell at home against Davidson (7 p.m., FloFC), Charleston at North Florida, and Delaware at Loyola Maryland. Monday’s seven-match slate includes Northeastern (UMass Lowell), Stony Brook (Iona), and Monmouth (LIU) at home, while on the road, UNCW visits No. 9 Clemson (7 p.m., ACCNX).|

Women’s Soccer
The CAA picked up two wins over Power 5 opponents in the season’s opening week thanks to Delaware’s home win over Syracuse and Hofstra’s victory at Rutgers. A nine-game Thursday features four teams at home on FloFC, as Stony Brook hosts Lafayette, Northeastern welcomes in San Jose State, Charleston gets an in-state visit from South Carolina State, and Drexel takes on UMBC. The five games on the road include Towson, the lone 2-0-0 team in the opening weekend, visiting Mount St. Mary’s (2 p.m., ESPN+), and William & Mary, the only team to shut out each of its first two opponents, heading up I-64 to play Richmond (5 p.m., ESPN+). Hampton will visit Howard with bragging rights on the line.
A light Friday/Saturday slate involving two games at Ivy League opponents (Hofstra at Columbia, Monmouth at Princeton) and Hampton continuing its trip north to face Saint Peter’s is followed by eight games on Sunday with five teams at home. UNCW will host Liberty, William & Mary takes on VCU, and Northeastern welcomes Eastern Michigan in three 1 p.m. games on FloFC, Campbell faces East Carolina at 3 p.m. to open a soccer doubleheader, and Drexel clashes with Philly rival Saint Joseph’s at 7 p.m. |
