CAA Field Hockey Weekly Awards – Sept. 11

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 11, 2023) – The CAA has announced its field hockey weekly award winners following the third week of the 2023 season. Northeastern junior midfielder Maria Armaganian was named CAA Player of the Week, and Drexel freshman forward/midfielder Val Van Hellemont earned CAA Rookie of the Week accolades for the second time in as many weeks. 
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maria Armaganian, Northeastern
Junior | Midfield | Concord, N.H. / Concord HS
Armaganian recorded three points on one goal and one assist, leading Northeastern to its fourth straight victory in a 3-2 win over Brown. The junior midfielder tallied her first goal this season on a penalty stroke in the 34th minute to give Northeastern a 2-1 advantage. After Brown tied the game, Armaganian assisted the game-winning goal on a penalty corner opportunity in the 50th minute. 
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Val Van Hellemont, Drexel
Freshman | Forward / Midfield | Lier, Belgium / Sint-Aloysius Institute
Van Hellemont helped the Dragons to a weekend split, recording three points on one goal and one assist in Drexel’s 3-1 win over Rider. Trailing 1-0 in the third quarter, the freshman scored her fourth goal this fall to tie the game in the 39th minute. Five minutes later, Van Hellemont assisted on the go-ahead goal before the Dragons tacked on an insurance tally in the fourth.
