CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 12

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 12, 2023) – The CAA has announced its cross country weekly award winners following the second week of the 2023 season. Northeastern swept the second edition of weekly awards as Abigail Hassman was named Women’s CAA Runner of the Week, and Benjamin Godish earned Men’s CAA Runner of the Week accolades.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Abigail Hassman, Northeastern
Senior | Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough HS
Hassman opened her season with an individual victory at the Nassaney Invitational, leading Northeastern to the team title at the event. The senior paced the field of 140-plus runners with a time of 17:28.1 over the 5K course, averaging a 5:38.1 mile split to take the crown. Hassman led a fleet of five Huskies in the top 10 as Northeastern topped the 11-team field.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Benjamin Godish, Northeastern
Junior | Highland Park, N.J. / Highland Park HS
Godish led Northeastern to its second team title in as many weeks, opening his season by claiming the individual crown at the Nassaney Invitational. The junior ran a personal-best 15:06.7 to outlast the field of 130-plus competitors in the 5K race. Godish paced three Huskies in the top five, with Northeastern finishing first among the 10 programs in the team standings.

Team Notes
Hofstra: The Pride opened its 2023 at the LIU Fall Festival.
Jackalynn Orellana was the top finisher for Hofstra in the women’s 5K (20:36.78/39
th), and freshman
Jamie Cartnal paced the Pride in the men’s 8K (28:14.46/44
th) during his collegiate debut.
UNCW: The Seahawks competed for the second time in as many weeks, hosting the UNCW 5K Beach Blast. Sophomore
Summer Herbertson (18:18.06) and freshman
Griffin Wald (15:23.74) won their first respective collegiate races as the Seahawk women finished first in the team standings and the men were runners up.
Northeastern: The Huskies earned their second straight team title on the men’s side while the women improved on a runner-up finish in the season opener to take the team crown at the Nassaney Invitational. The women claimed the top three spots in the 5K race, with

rd) accompanied Godish in the top three for the men.
Stony Brook: The Seawolves participated in the Friar Invitational, where the men won the team title for the second time in as many weeks, and the women came in third. Stony Brook placed three men in the top five of the 6K race, led by
Shane Henderson in third (18:15.2).
Grace Wiegele paced the women for the second straight race, earning a top-five finish in the 4K race (14:20.3/4
th).
Towson: The Tigers were back in action at the Navy Invitational. Junior
Aubrey Schaffer was the top finisher from Towson for the second consecutive meet, running to a top-25 finish in the 6K competition (23:36.08/21
st).
