CAA Cross Country Weekly Awards – Sept. 19

RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 19, 2023) – The CAA has announced its cross country weekly award winners following the third week of the 2023 season. Elon senior Maggie Springer earned Women’s CAA Runner of the Week honors, and William & Mary senior Sam Pritchard was named Men’s CAA Runner of the Week.
WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Maggie Springer, Elon
Senior |Chapel Hill, N.C. / Chapel Hill HS
Springer placed top 10 individually at the Adidas XC Challenge and led Elon to the team title. The senior finished eighth overall and fourth among attached competitors, running 17:31.7 over the 5K course. Springer led a fleet of four Phoenix runners in the top 11 as Elon topped the 13-team field ahead of four CAA comrades.
MEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Sam Pritchard, William & Mary
Senior | Springfield, Va. / West Springfield
Pritchard earned a top-10 finish at the Adidas XC Challenge, leading William & Mary to a runner-up finish in the event. The senior covered the 6K course in a personal-best time of 18:20.1 to place eighth in the 150-plus runner field. Prichard paced three Tribe runners in the top 20 as W&M placed second in the team standings ahead of Duke and four CAA foes while only finishing behind No. 21 NC State.

Team Notes
Campbell: The Camels were one of five CAA teams at the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State. Alitza Betancourt Dennard paced the women in the 5K (19:36.3, 64th), and Hudson Hayes finished first for the Camel men in the 6K (20:03.2, 70th).
Charleston: The Cougars competed in the Adidas XC Challenge, with the women earning a top-five team finish, placing fourth. Rhian Purves paced the Charleston women for the second straight meet, running a PR in the 5K at 17:58.2 (20th). Mitchel Drees was the top performer on the men’s side as the freshman shaved 34 seconds off his 6K time from his collegiate debut (19:07.0, 33rd).
Delaware: The Blue Hens ran in their second meet this fall, competing in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. Tiffany Herrera was the top finisher for Delaware, covering the 6K course in 24:29.1 (45th).
Elon: The Phoenix women won its first team title this fall at the Adidas XC Challenge, and the men placed seventh in the team standings. Three Elon runners followed Springer consecutively, with Jette Beermann (17:32.1, 9th) and Madison Synowiec (17:32.2, 10th) earning top-10 finishes. Logan Harding was the top finisher for the Phoenix men in the 6K (18:59.9, 29th).
Hampton: Hampton’s men and women competed at the Christopher Newport Invitational. Jordan Mozie earned a top-20 finish in the women’s 6K, running 23:29.0 (13th). Freshman Leo Davis paced the Pirate men in the 8K, completing his collegiate debut in 29:18.7.
Hofstra: The Pride hosted a dual meet against Saint Peter’s, with the men and women taking the top five spots in either race. Jordyn McDonnell won the women’s 5K (18:16.9), and Brian Beck finished first in the men’s 5K (15:37.0).
Monmouth: The Hawks participated in the Iona Meet of Champions. Two men and one women’s runner earned top-10 finishes in the event. Declan McDonnell paced the men over the five-mile course, finishing third with a mark of 25:11.1. Emily Simko earned a ninth-place finish in the women’s 5K to lead the Hawks, running 18:32.8.
North Carolina A&T: The Aggies joined the crew of CAA teams at the Adidas XC Challenge. Fajr Kelly finished first for the A&T women for the 10th straight meet (19:26.2, 41st), and Kylan Willis paced the Aggie men (19:30.2, 46th).
William & Mary: The Tribe men and women earned runner-up team finishes at the Adidas XC Challenge. Brendan DiStefano joined Pritchard in the top 10, finishing ninth in 18:24.6. For the women, Arianna DeBoer paced the squad with a 12th-place finish, covering the course in 17:38.6.
