RICHMOND, Va. (Sept. 28, 2023) – CAA Championship rematches, first-place battles, and a return to the pool highlight the final weekend of September around the league.

Women’s Soccer
Monmouth’s Tuesday victory over Elon moved the Hawks into a three-way tie for first in the CAA standings. The two teams joining them atop the table will be in action as part of a five-game Thursday, as Towson hosts Stony Brook (6 p.m., FloFC) and Hofstra takes on a William & Mary side that has still not lost in 2023 (7 p.m., FloFC). Thursday’s other action includes Northeastern’s visit to Delaware (6 p.m., FloFC), Charleston taking on Drexel in Philadelphia (6 p.m., FloFC), and Hampton heading to Elon (7 p.m., FloFC).

Sunday’s six-game docket kicks off at noon when William & Mary heads east on Long Island to face Stony Brook (FloFC) before four 1 p.m. games: Monmouth at Drexel (FloFC), Towson at Hampton, Charleston at Delaware (FloFC), and a CAA Championship rematch between Northeastern and Hofstra (FloFC). UNCW and Campbell wrap up the weekend in Buies Creek (2 p.m., FloFC). | Weekend Schedule

Men’s Soccer
A five-game slate awaits Saturday with three contests under the lights. First-place Stony Brook begins the day hosting UNCW (2 p.m., FloFC) and William & Mary welcomes Drexel (3 p.m.) before the night schedule begins with 7 p.m. games on FloFC between Northeastern and Campbell in Buies Creek and Charleston and Monmouth in West Long Branch. Saturday concludes with a CAA Championship rematch as No. 19 Hofstra visits Elon (7:30 p.m, FloFC). | Weekend Schedule

Volleyball
League play rolls on in CAA Volleyball, entering the third week of the conference slate with 12 more matches this weekend. Among the matchups are two battles between teams at the top of the conference standings. Not surprisingly, Hofstra and Towson are tied for second in the league standings as the duo matches up on Long Island. In 2021, Hofstra snapped Towson’s 23-match winning streak in CAA play before the Tigers returned the favor last fall, handing the Pride its only losses after a 14-0 start to league play. If that’s any indication for 2023, get your popcorn ready. Meanwhile, UNCW and Campbell have turned heads around the league at the start of conference play. The Seahawks are 4-0 in CAA play for the first time since 1988, sitting atop the league standings, while the Camels have opened their inaugural CAA campaign 3-1 in a tie for second. UNCW welcomes Campbell to the beach for their first matchup as CAAA foes in a rivalry dating back to 1986.

The additional four matchups include a Commonwealth battle between William & Mary and Hampton, Charleston traveling to Delaware, Northeastern visiting Elon and North Carolina A&T heading to Stony Brook. | Weekend Schedule

Field Hockey
We approach the mid-point of the conference schedule in CAA Field Hockey, with three more league matches on Friday. The afternoon starts at 1 p.m. (FloLive) as Towson hosts Northeastern in a battle of first-year head coaches looking to lead their programs to their first CAA wins this fall. At 3 p.m. (FloLive), Hofstra welcomes Drexel to Hempstead. The Dragons are riding a three-match winning streak, including their first CAA victory, while the Pride won a double overtime thriller its last time out but are searching for a first league win. The nightcap features Delaware hosting William & Mary at 5 p.m. (FloLive). The Blue Hens and Tribe are the only two teams to hoist the CAA Championship trophy since 2013, playing 16 times during that time, including six postseason matchups. W&M will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak against Delaware come Friday.

The action continues on Sunday with a full seven-game non-conference slate, highlighted by the Tribe hosting No. 4 Duke (12 p.m., FloLive). In addition, Monmouth looks to extend its league-best four-match winning streak, hosting Temple (12 p.m.) after entertaining James Madison on Friday (4 p.m.). | Weekend Schedule

Swimming & Diving
The defending CAA men’s and women’s swimming and diving champions, UNCW, get the 2023-24 season started on Friday afternoon as they welcome South Carolina to the David B. Allen Natatorium.

Golf

On the women’s side, Hofstra, Monmouth, Towson, and William & Mary will meet up to play the Navy Fall Invitational in Annapolis.

Cross Country
It’s a busy weekend around CAA Cross Country as 10 teams toe the line between Friday and Saturday. Many eyes in the cross country world will be on Bethlehem, Pa., where Lehigh is hosting the annual Paul Short Run on Saturday. Five CAA teams – Delaware, Monmouth, Stony Brook, Towson and William & Mary – will be among the field in one of the largest cross country events of the year. In addition, Charleston travels to Louisville for the Live in Lou Classic, and Elon, which women’s team received votes in the USTFCCCA for the first time in program history, heads to Rock Hill S.C. for the Winthrop Invitational. On Friday, Campbell and UNCW will participate in the Chanticleer Challenge hosted by Coastal Carolina, while Hofstra competes at the Battle in Beantown hosted by Boston College.
