SPARKS, Md. (Jan. 17, 2024) – Six CAA lacrosse players – three from the Stony Brook women’s program, two from the Delaware men’s team and one from the Stony Brook men – were named Preseason All-America honorees by USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Stony Brook midfielder
Ellie Masera was named to the first team list. Masera, a First Team All-American pick last season, scored 71 goals and totaled 95 points for Stony Brook in 2023, both league highs. She was active on the defensive end and in the draw circle as well, with a league-leading 120 draw controls to go with 36 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. Her 120 draw controls were third-most in a season in program history. For her career, Masera stands at third in program history in draw controls (243), eighth in goals (155) and 10th in points (200). In addition to her First Team distinction from USA Lacrosse, Masera took Second Team All-American from the IWLCA and ILWomen, and was a Tewaaraton Award nominee for the second straight season in 2023. The Eastport native was last year's Coastal Athletic Association Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection. She took a national Offensive Player of the Week honor from the IWLCA and four CAA Player of the Week honors last season.
Stony Brook defender
Clare Levy was tabbed as a third-team honoree. Levy earned herself Third Team All-American from USA Lacrosse last season after coming up with 27 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers, adding 58 draw controls as well, her most in a season. With Levy making significant contributions on defense and in the possession game, Stony Brook allowed just 7.89 goals per game in 2023, fourth-fewest in Division I. Seawolves' opponents managed just 17.5 shots taken per game last year. The Rocky Point, N.Y. native was an IWLCA Second Team All-Region selection and a Tewaaraton watch list pick in 2023, and took First Team All-CAA honors from the league along with All-Tournament Team.
Stony Brook attacker
Kailyn Hart made the list of recipients as an honorable mention selection. Hart was an Honorable Mention All-American among both USA Lacrosse and ILWomen last season. She was second in the league with 55 goals and 78 points and sixth with 23 assists. She matched her jersey number with 14 hat tricks in 2023, scoring three or more goals in the final 10 games. Hart helped Stony Brook to 14.79 goals per game last season, tied for 13th in the country and best in the CAA. She ranks seventh in Stony Brook history in career goals (157) and eighth in points (210). In addition to her media honors, the North Babylon, N.Y. native was an IWLCA First Team All-Region selection and a Tewaaraton Award watch list pick in 2023. Hart also took a First Team All-CAA distinction along with All-Tournament Team and a Player of the Week honor in 2023.
Stony Brook graduate midfielder
Dylan Pallonetti picks up preseason national recognition on USA Lacrosse's All-American list for the first time in his collegiate career as an honorable mention pick. A team captain and a three-time all-conference first team honoree, the Long Island product led the team in goals (51) and points (70), both of which were career high marks, a season ago and earned distinction as a USILA Scholar All-American and on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Pallonetti enjoyed a 42-game scoring streak last season, the longest such streak in the nation. His 51 goals last season were tied for the second-most in a single season in program history. His 70 points were fifth-most in a single season in program history. He finished second in the CAA and 10th in the NCAA in goals per game (3.19) and his 4.38 points per game was 24th in the nation. He finished with 11 multi-goal games and registered nine hat tricks in 2023.
Delaware graduate attack
Mike Robinson was named an honorable mention selection on the men’s side. Robinson,a Peterborough, Ontario native, is now a two-time preseason all-American having earned the honor from the USILA in 2023. Robinson, a graduate student this season, was named Second Team All-CAA in 2022 and was the CAA Rookie of the Year in 2021. In 2023, Robinson tallied 32 goals with 16 assists and 48 points. He was eighth in the CAA in goals scored and seventh in points per game. Robinson has totaled 145-career goals and is only 36 away from surpassing Tye Kurtz and becoming Delaware's all-time goals leader.
Delaware senior attack
JP Ward was named to the men’s honorable mention list. The Owings Mill, Md., native is both a two-time CAA All-Tournament team member and was named First Team All-CAA in back-to-back seasons. Last season, Ward led the Blue Hens in assists (43) and was second in goals (42). He led the CAA in assists and was second in the conference in points per game with 4.72. His 2.39 assists per game slotted him 12th in the nation. Ward helped Delaware to the No. 8-ranked scoring offense in all of NCAA Division I as the Blue Hens totaled 265 goals a season ago.
