CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Jan. 23

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 23, 2024) – The CAA has announced its fifth indoor track and field weekly awards for the 2023-24 season. For the women, Northeastern senior Abigail Hassman received CAA Track Athlete of the Week and Towson sophomore Manie Mevo CAA Field Athlete of the Week honors. On the men’s side, North Carolina A&T sophomore Jason Holmes was named CAA Track Athlete of the Week, and William & Mary freshman Brian Walsh earned CAA Field Athlete of the Week.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Abigail Hassman, Northeastern
Senior | Distance | Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough HS
Hassman broke the Northeastern and CAA record in the mile at the New Balance Collegiate Showdown. The senior finished fourth in the event, running 4:41.18, a time that ranks 30
th in the NCAA this season. In addition, Hassman competed in the 800m at the BU Battle in Beantown. She posted a personal-best 2:13.13 to place third.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Manie Mevo, Towson
Sophomore | Jumps | Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard HS
Mevo won two events at the Ramapo College Opener, including a record-setting performance in the triple jump. The sophomore broke the Towson and CAA record in the triple jump, winning the competition with a leap of 12.50m (41-00.25). The mark ranks 40th nationally this winter. Mevo also won the long jump with a top jump of 5.56m (18-03.00).
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jason Holmes, North Carolina A&T
Sophomore | Sprints / Hurdles | Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall College HS
Holmes won his second 60m hurdles event in as many tries this season, competing at the Hokie Invitational. Holmes ran 7.72 in the finals to take the title in the event. The performance is a top-10 time in the NCAA this season. The sophomore ranks second in the CAA and fourth nationally with his season-best time of 7.70.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brian Walsh, William & Mary
Freshman | Combined Events | Mendham, N.J. / Mendham
Walsh produced a conference-leading mark in his first collegiate heptathlon at the Brant Tolsma Invitational. The freshman tallied 4,802 points to take third place in the event. He recorded personal bests in the long jump (7.03m) and high jump (1.91m) while competing in the additional five events for the first time. The performance ranks 38
th in the NCAA this season.
