CAA Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards – Jan. 30

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 30, 2024) – The CAA has announced its sixth indoor track and field weekly awards for the 2023-24 season. For the women, Campbell redshirt senior Chastity Pickett earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week honors, and Elon redshirt senior Kaitlin McGoogan was named CAA Field Athlete of the Week. On the men’s side, Hampton junior Dugion Blackman received CAA Track Athlete of the Year accolades, and Campbell senior C.J. McBride collected CAA Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chastity Pickett, Campbell
R-Senior | Sprints / Hurdles | Albany, Ga. / Westover Comprehensive HS
Pickett ran season-best times in the 60m hurdles, 60m dash and 200m at the Bob Pollock Invitational. The redshirt senior placed third in the hurdles with a time of 8.26, the second-fastest time in the CAA this season, which ranks 31st nationally. Pickett followed the effort by running 7.55 in the 60m dash and 23.93 in the 200m. She ranks third in the conference in the 200 and fifth in the 60 with her respective marks.
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kaitlin McGoogan, Elon
R-Senior | Throw | Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale
McGoogan broke the Elon program record in the weight throw, winning the event at the Camel City Invitational. The redshirt senior recorded a league-leading toss of 19.17m (62-10.75) to claim her first event victory this winter. McGoogan is the only CAA student-athlete to throw over 19m in the event this season, holding the top mark in the conference by 0.91 meters.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dugion Blackman, Hampton
Junior | Middle Distance | Kingston, Jamaica / Jamaica College
Blackman ran an indoor personal best and league-leading mark in the 800m at the Penn State National Open. The junior placed sixth in the event, crossing the finish in 1:48.40. The mark ranks 21st nationally this season. In addition, he helped Hampton to a third-place finish in the 4x400m relay as the Pirates ran a season-best time of 3:14.95 in the event.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
C.J. McBride, Campbell
Senior | Jumps | Apex, N.C. / Apex HS
McBride won the high jump at the Camel City Invitational with a clearance of 2.10m (6-10.75). The senior has four event victories in four tries this season, including two in the high jump. McBride has the league’s top mark in the high jump with his season-best clearance of 2.16m and is the only CAA student-athlete to jump 2.10m or higher this winter.
