CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Jan. 9

RICHMOND, Va. (January 9, 2024) – Delaware swept the first CAA swimming and diving awards of the new year after the men’s and women’s teams defeated conference foe Drexel last Saturday. Junior Gavin Currie earned Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors and sophomore Lauren Hartel received Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolades. Sophomore Kevin Siegfried was the Men’s Diver of the Week and sophomore Alex Pastris was the Women’s Diver of the Week.
CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week
Gavin Currie, Jr., Delaware (Frederick, Md.)
Currie posted a pair of individual victories and was part of a winning relay team as Delaware topped rival Drexel, 189-111, last Saturday. The junior finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.44 and also touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:48.54. He was a member of the Blue Hens’ first-place 200 medley relay team that recorded a winning time of 1:29.73. Currie set the top time in the CAA in the 200 back earlier this season at the WVU Invitational.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Lauren Hartel, So., Delaware (Arlington, Va.)
Hartel recorded a pair of first-place performances to help Delaware battle past Drexel, 180-120, last Saturday. The sophomore won the 1,000 free by 21 seconds with a time of 10:29.29 and captured the 500 free with a time of 5:07.10. Hartel set the top times in the CAA in both events earlier this season at the WVU Invitational.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Kevin Siegfried, So., Delaware (Chalfont, Pa.)
Siegfried swept both boards in Delaware’s victory over CAA foe Drexel last Saturday. The sophomore posted an NCAA Zone cut score of 306.53 to claim the 1-meter competition and captured the 3-meter competition with a score of 289.20.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Alex Pastris, So., Delaware (Broomall, Pa.)
Pastris turned in a pair of NCAA Zone cut performances to help post a team triumph over Drexel last Saturday. She took first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 294.00 and finished second in the 1-meter competition with a score of 277.05.
