RICHMOND, Va. (October 22, 2024) – Drexel sophomore Theo Andreopoulos earned CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, and Drexel sophomore Mariana Alencar received CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolades. Northeastern senior Erin Murphy was selected as the Women’s Diver of the Week.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Theo Andreopoulos, So., Drexel (Thermi, Greece)
Andreopoulos set a pair of pool records as Drexel defeated La Salle, 226-73, in its season opener. The sophomore captured the 100 back with a record-time of 48.87, which ranks fourth in the CAA this season. He was also part of the Dragons’ record-setting 200 free relay team with a time of 1:22.41. Andreopoulos added a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 45.12.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Mariana Alencar, So., Drexel (Fortaleza, Ceara)
Alencar recorded two first-place individual finishes and added a pair of relay victories as Drexel opened the season by beating La Salle, 169-119. The sophomore captured the 50 free in a time of 23.94 and claimed the 100 free with a time of 52.43. She also helped the Dragons take the top spot in the 4X50 medley relay and 4X50 freestyle relay.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Erin Murphy, Sr., Northeastern (Duxbury, Mass.)
Murphy continued her strong start to the season, sweeping both diving events in Northeastern’s 169-124 team win over Rhode Island. The senior posted a winning score of 282.0 on the 1-meter board and took the 3-meter competition with a score of 289.95 to qualify for the NCAA Zone meet.
