Trey Smiley are the CAA men’s soccer weekly award winners for the week ending October 27.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Scott Vatne, Elon
Senior | Midfielder | Klepp, Norway / Bryne Videregaende Skole
Vatne earns his second CAA Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, after a seven-point performance against Northeastern in conference play. The senior midfielder finished the day with three goals and one assist having a hand in all four Phoenix goals. As a result, Vatne moved to 25 points on the season, marking the most by an Elon player since 2015, and the most by a midfielder in the program since at least 2012.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Olly Marshall, Charleston
Junior | Goalkeeper | Newcastle, England / John Spence Community
For the second consecutive week, Charleston takes home the CAA Defensive Player of the Week honor after a strong performance in conference play for Olly Marshall. The junior shot-stopper notched five saves to propel the Cougars to a 3-1 win over Hofstra and earn his 10
th victory of the year Not only was this Charleston’s first win over the Pride since 2015, but it also clinched a spot in the CAA Championship.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Trey Smiley, UNCW
Redshirt Freshman | Goalkeeper | Lynden, Wash. / Lynden
Smiley started his sixth match of the season, and proved to be a formidable force in goal to help UNCW earn its first win over a ranked opponent this season. The redshirt freshman played 86 minutes in the game, tallying four saves and holding his opposition scoreless for the second time this season.
