CAA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards - Oct. 8

RICHMOND, Va. (October 8, 2024) – Delaware senior Gavin Currie earned CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors, while UNCW junior Ethan Badrian was chosen as the Men’s Diver of the Week. Delaware junior Angi Ragazzoni received Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolades, and Northeastern senior Erin Murphy was selected as the Women’s Diver of the Week.
CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Gavin Currie, Sr., Delaware (Frederick, Md.)
Currie, who owns the CAA all-time record in the 200 back, got his season off to a strong start by capturing the 200 back in the W&M Quad Meet with a time of 1:45.09. The mark is the second-fastest in the nation thus far. He finished second overall and best among CAA swimmers in the 100 back with a time of 48.46, which is 12
th-fastest nationally. Currie also swam leadoff for UD’s winning 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:26.71, which is third-fastest nationally.
CAA Men’s Diver of the Week
Ethan Badrian, Jr., UNCW (Silver Spring, Md.)
The two-time CAA Diver of the Year got his season off to a solid start at the William & Mary Quad Meet in Hampton, Va. The junior placed second among 10 divers on the 1-meter board with a score of 258.95 and finished in a tie for fourth in the 3-meter competition with a score of 251.40.
CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Angi Ragazzoni, Jr., Delaware (Rome, Italy)
Ragazzoni swept the 100 and 200 backstroke events at the W&M Quad Meet, setting school records and personal bests in both events. The junior won the 100 back in a time of 53.98, which is the fifth-fastest nationally, and claimed the 200 back in a time of 1:58.08, which is also ranked No. 5 in the nation thus far.
CAA Women’s Diver of the Week
Erin Murphy, Sr., Northeastern (Duxbury, Mass.)
Murphy, the 2023 and 2024 CAA Diver of the Year, swept both boards in Northeastern’s season-opening meet against Vermont. The senior posted a score of 260.85 on the 3-meter board and tallied a score of 258.83 in the 1-meter competition.
