The Weekend Preview – Oct. 10, 2024

RICHMOND, Va. (Oct. 10, 2024) – A high-stakes weekend early in the volleyball conference slate is one of many storylines to watch this weekend in the CAA.

Volleyball
The fourth weekend of conference play begins with five teams at 5-1, and four of them meeting for two-match sets on Friday and Saturday. Charleston hosts Towson for two with Friday’s match (5 p.m.) simulcast on YouTube. The Tigers are 14-2 in 2024 and the Cougars 13-5 entering the weekend. Northeastern crosses the Sound for two at Hofstra.

The other four series begin Saturday with the league’s other 5-1 team, Delaware, heading to William & Mary. Elon is one back in the standings and will host Campbell for two, while the teams tied at 3-3 meet in Greensboro when Stony Brook visits N.C. A&T. Hampton and UNCW meet in Wilmington with both teams in search of their first conference win. All 12 matches this weekend can be seen on FloVolleyball.

Women’s Soccer
A six-match Thursday slate starts in Brookline, as Northeastern hosts Hofstra (6 p.m., FloFC/NESN+) in the teams’ first meeting at Parsons Field since the 2022 CAA title game. Delaware is tied atop the CAA standings and hosts Drexel, while Stony Brook hosts Hampton in the other 6 p.m. matches, both on FloFC. Elon looks to keep pace atop the table when the Phoenix hosts William & Mary, Towson aims to keep its recent winning streak going in a visit to Charleston, and Monmouth heads to Campbell in 7 p.m. matches on FloFC.
 
All six of Sunday afternoon’s contests can be seen on FloFC, beginning with a pair of noon clashes as Towson visits UNCW and Northeastern heads to Drexel. At 1 p.m., Hampton plays at Hofstra, Elon goes to Charleston, William & Mary is at Campbell and Stony Brook visits Delaware.

Men’s Soccer
Three straight days of men’s soccer are upon us, with both in and out-of-conference matchups. Friday’s lone contest sees UNCW travel to Delaware to open the weekend’s league docket (7 p.m., FloFC).

Saturday’s slate is full of CAA contests, as Stony Brook hosts Drexel (1 p.m.), Charleston takes on Northeastern (1 p.m.), No. 21 Hofstra welcomes Campbell to Hempstead (2 p.m.), and undefeated Monmouth takes a trip to Virginia to face off with William & Mary (6 p.m.). All matches are streaming live on FloFC.
With no conference games this weekend, Elon takes on Cape Fear Community College in Sunday’s only matchup (2 p.m.).

Field Hockey
Friday means conference play for field hockey, with Northeastern starting the day against Towson (3 p.m., NESN/FloLive). The two teams at 3-0 in CAA action play on Friday as Drexel hosts Hofstra (4 p.m., FloLive) and Delaware battles William & Mary (5 p.m., FloLive).
 
Monmouth has the lone contest on Saturday, competing in its first of two games in Iowa when it plays Indiana (2 p.m.)

The Sunday non-league slate features all seven teams in action. Towson travels to Connecticut for an early morning matchup with Sacred Heart (9:30 a.m., NEC Front Row), to be played in New Haven, while Monmouth continues its Hawkeye State trip, taking on No. 12 Iowa (12 p.m., B1G+). Northeastern and Boston University meet in a local battle (ESPN+), Hofstra hosts Rider (ESPN+), William & Mary plays VCU, and Delaware travels to No. 16 Princeton (ESPN+), with all four of these contests starting at 1 p.m.  Drexel rounds out the weekend when it hosts La Salle in Philadelphia (2:30 p.m., FloLive).

Swimming & Diving
Four CAA swimming & diving programs hit the pool this weekend. Highlighting the slate is UNCW hosting nationally ranked Auburn on Saturday at 11 a.m. Campbell opens its season on Saturday at Old Dominion and William & Mary faces Navy and UMBC at the Navy Tri-Meet. Towson is on the road at La Salle on Friday before returning home to take on Seton Hall on Saturday.
 
Golf
A group of CAA men’s programs are set to play a tournament hosted by Georgetown in New Jersey, as Campbell, Delaware, Towson, and William & Mary will head north. Elon will host a tournament at Alamance where N.C. A&T will participate, and Charleston and UNCW will head to High Point’s Qubein Cup. Hofstra starts out the week with a one-day event Thursday on Long Island before heading to Bucknell for a tournament that includes Monmouth.
 
In women’s action, Campbell is in Savannah for The Southern, Charleston hosts on Edisto Island with Elon, Towson, and William & Mary joining the Cougars, N.C. A&T is in Cary for the SAS HBCU Invitational, UNCW takes part in North Carolina’s tournament. Hofstra faces Wagner in a dual meet before Monmouth plays a match play event in New Jersey against the Seahawks.
 
Cross Country
It’s a light weekend of action in CAA cross country. On Saturday, Northeastern heads to Hopkinton, N.H. for the New England Championships, while Delaware participates at the Highlander Invitational in Newark, N.J.
