Delaware Earns Rematch with Fairfield to Open NCAA Field Hockey Championship

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 10, 2024) – CAA Field Hockey champion Delaware will face a familiar opponent in the Opening Round of the 2024 NCAA Championship.
Delaware meets Fairfield on Wednesday in Chapel Hill, N.C., 10 days after the Blue Hens’ 2-0 win over the Stags on Senior Day. It is the second NCAA Tournament meeting between the teams in the last four seasons, as Delaware defeated Fairfield in overtime in Newark in 2021.
Delaware (11-9) won its 10
th CAA title in the last 12 seasons with a 4-3 overtime victory over Monmouth on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.
Valentina Martorell was named the championship’s Most Outstanding Player with a two-goal day, while
Lulu Fulton scored the overtime game-winner.
This will be the Blue Hens’ 14
th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2022. UD is 10-12 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, highlighted by winning the 2016 National Championship.
